I've applied for the VEC grant and like a lot of people I haven't heard anything yet.
If I have no proof I'm receiving a grant by the time registration comes about, I'll have to pay the fees.

If I then hear back that my claim has been approved is it possible to get a refund of the registration fees?

I've had a look around but couldn't find an answer. Appreciate any help.

Yes if you are approved for the grant you will be refunded your fee. Although when exactly you will receive it back is at the discetion of the college usually.

sorry, but i'm a little confused. would i be right in saying that if you are eligible for the full maintenance grant, that the €1,500 , registration fee, or student services charge as it is some times called, is paid and you do dont have to pay anything to the college. both tuition and registration fees are paid by the vec or who ever.

If you get the FULL grant then everything is paid for. Depending on college procedure you may have to pay reg fee's(€1500) upfront if your grant has not come through and then claim a refund. Note that this can take up to a few months to claim back so be wary if you are borrowing it. Some colleges give you some time to wait for your grant, usually mid/late october, to come through and if it's not received by then you will have to follow the above procedure. This is why it pays off to get your application in asap. Hope this helps. Have a read over studentfinance.ie if your still confused.
