I am planning on getting an extension for my kitchen next month. I heard that you need to get an architect to sign off an extension or something if you plan on selling the house. Is this true or was I misinformed?

I know that if someone was buying the house at a later date their bank would require an engineer to sign of on the structure before giving the buyer a mortgage. If you are using bank finance they will probably require a sign off as well. That't about as much as I know, sorry.

OP . It is true - you have not been mis informed .

OP, if you received planning permission for the extension, it will need certificates of compliance with both planning permission and building regulations.

If it is an exempt development, it will require a certificate of exemption from planning and a certificate of compliance with the building regulations.
