I saw a program last night about prisons and since I've caught the zombie bug[metaphor!!!,put down your pitchfoks lads] I thought wouldn't a prison be one of the best place to be holed up in the apocalypse?High walls open yards, towers and cells to barricade yourself in/them out and many different choke points to block them off

Other than all the criminals inside it would be an excellent place to hide out. Their often very big and you would have the opportunity to produce food in the large courtyards.

It's hard to know what will happen to prisons when the apocalypse breaks out. I don't see the prison guards hanging about, do they leave the criminals locked up to starve to death? They certainly don't want to be around if they do decide to open the cells and let them fend for themselves.

If they did leave the inmates in their cells to starve they would be a horrible place full of rotting corpses that may make them uninhabitable.

In the stand, they had a guy left alone in the prison while everyone else died. He was forced to eat rats and his roommate.:D

I'd say the guards would get the hell out of there. In terms of barriers and that it would be a good place to hide but if the virus managed to get into the prison then it wouldn't be too easy to escape would it?

The problem with prisons is that those that are kept there are probably more dangerous than what you would be trying to escape.

The only prision I'd go to isnt even a prision anymore, and the only reason I'd go to it is because its on an Island.

I'm on about SPike Island in Cork Harbour,Its grass could supply you with crops and cattle :D

First things first, i'd open all the cells and let the inmates out. They'd be so glad to get ou of there, they'd run straight into the Zombie horde that was chasing me. Then i'd lock down the prison, and put my feet up watching justice be done...Zombie style :P

True, but at least i'd have bought some time. I'd then let them in the main gate, close it after them, and leave through the back exit. So i'd have plently of time while they try to get in, then even more time when they try to get out :)

In my opinion, if i was building a prison, a back door is just asking for trouble!
