I've had this on my screen since thursday. I've tried unplugging for a while etc, no effect. It seems to cycle through this and a reboot, followed by the same all over again. Analogue / broadband still works fine. Remote doesn't seem to effect the box any more (power, upc, menu, guide - nada)

    Power LED constantly flashing.

Anyone have this before? On thursday UPC reckoned they could fix it externally. Yesterday they thought it was a problem with the box (which is my take on it). Got another call today to confirm a visit tuesday, then another call from some foreign lad who was sure that reseating the cables and rebooting would fix it. (Why didn't I think of that?;))

Now - points where I may have messed up. I replaced the splitter thursday afternoon. Was fine for a while. Then this. I of course put the old splitter back, but no effect.

As analogue / bb ok, and the box seems unresponsive, I'm pretty sure I didn't break it.

Anyone see this error message before? Will UPC care whether I have a double / triple splitter?

    Thanks

    Mark

Had exactly the same message for days. Had my box replaced 4 times in 4 months and gave up last week. My latest box switches off every couple of days.
I gave up on UPC and now have sky hd. What a difference, perfect.

Did it happen on all of your boxes? I like their broadband, and the phone is ok. Hate to have to leave them and go back to sky!

I've had this appear too - was dreadful on Monday, it did it five or six times. I think I know what causes mine to wig out most of the time. If I watch a recording and put the subtitles on, then pause it or rewind without turning off the subtitles, it'll crash. Everything freezes for a few seconds, then it turns off, then the "software upgrade" notice appears for about 30 seconds, then it turns off again. Once the red LED appears on the box, only then I can turn it on again and it'll be fine. Until the next "software upgrade." 90% of the time, I'm pretty sure it's the subtitles that cause the problems. I've no idea about the other random shut downs.

I know it's not upgrading anything so I'm afraid that the box is about to die on me. I've ordered a video capture thing to record what's stored on it. I'll go mental if it dies before I can rescue my "Reeling in the Years" collection.

I think I'll cancel the television, and keep the broadband and phone. Back to sky for the channels I think.

Came on for me every so often. Once took a couple of hours, but worked fine and I've never really had a problem with NTL.

Getting the NTL HD next week. Hopefully this won't be an issue.

Stupid box is still sitting there, mocking me. Sky ordered. Multiroom too actually. Take that UPC! :D

    Hi Mark,

It happened on 2 out of the 4 boxes.
The 1st box the picture kept freezing.
The 2nd and 3 box did the "updating" business for days and the boxes hung and had to be replaced.
The last box just kept switching off every day or two while I was watching the box or recording. This was the final straw and now have SKY HD for the last two weeks. It is brilliant, no glitches, better reception even on SD channels and simply mind blowing on HD, Even the remote control is miles better.

You will not be disappointed with SKY

Sky are in my house now installing. Have to pay a cancellation fee of 100 though. Must make sure they don't charge me for the last week!
