Set the setbox to 16:9 / WS/ Widescreen

Make sure the Bravia is set to 16:9 or Auto

Make sure a properly wired SCART cable is used.

Can you give an example of, a properly wired, SCART?
No one in the stores seems to know any difference between them

Just means it's fully wired inside ie. all 21 pins are wired from end to end. Some cheaper scarts may not be.
