What does "pump and dump" mean?

    Heard this mentioned a few times when people are talking about share price, but what exactly does it mean?

    It's when people manipulate the share price higher to take big profits and then sell all their shares. They can do this through falsely positive news releases or bidding up stocks to make them appear stronger than they are which suck in average investors. Once the pumpers get rid of their shares the price returns to a normal level and the average shareholders have lost money.

    It's an illegal practice. Hard to prove though
