    hey all,
just wondering if anyone can help me.

the skin on my face gets very dry, in the winter i sometimes even get small dry patches on my forehead etc.

however, my nose gets quite oily, even tho the skin on it is very dry.

i've tried so many moistuisers and still haven't found one that works well.

i exfoliate every 2 days, i've tried moisturisers ranging from nivea/simple to elizabeth arden's perpetual moisture 24 cream and avani's dead sea cosmetics mineral enriched cream.

no matter how much i put on my nose, the skin remains very dry but appears shiny because it's oily also.

are there any that anybody can recommend? i don't mind price too much, but nothing overboard!

i'd probaby cut down on exfoliation a little to start off with , you could be over stimulating your skin a little. cut back to twice a week!

what else do you use as part of your skincare routine?? cleansers ? facial wipes? masks?

Elemis have a maximum moisture day cream. they got rid of their day creams for dry skin / oily skin and replaced them with this which is suitable for all skin types. it has the ability to adapt to your skins needs ( based on the properties of a cactus) so it balances oily areas while hydrating others! its about €58 for 50mls and it'll last you about 3 months !
( sorry we use elemis in our spa hence the big speal !)

another idea would be to start using masks once or twice a week, use a purifying mask on nose and oily areas, and a hydrating mask everywhere else ?

hope that helps a little :)

    wow, thanks a lot! :pac:

i used to do the whole cleansing/toning routine but found that left my skin very tight, so now i just use wipes and apply moisturiser afterwards.

whereabouts can you buy that Elemis stuff in dublin?

i might try the masks too, they'll prob wreck my head to apply but if it helps it's worth it!

I have a similair skin type and Clinique Dramaticaly Different Moisterusing GEL (not lotion) is a godsend. I've been using it for a few years and my skin isn't oily nor does it have dry patches anymore!

Witch hazel is a great toner astringent for those oily places too and cheap as chips in the chemist, use rose water as a toner else where, also super cheap in the chemist (own brand)

I second this moisturiser! It feels really light on your skin but is really moisturising at the same time.
If you still get oily/shiny patches maybe try a matifying fluid/foundation primer over your moisturiser where needed.

thanks for all your replies guys.

i think i'll try the clinique one as that's relatively easy for me to get my hands on.

    thanks again!

I've similar skin too - generally oily but with dry patches.

I use Neutrogena cleanser/toner and Neutrogena oil-free moisturiser. If I get a particularly dry patch in winter I put E45 cream on that little spot until it goes.

I used Clinique for years -tried all the different toner "types", the gel and the lotion. I found all the toners were too harsh and drying and the both the moisturising gel and lotion were too oily.
