Dead or alive?

A man stands over me, staring and prodding. I think I’m dead but I can’t be sure since I’ve never experienced death before. I’m really not bothered either. I’m so damned relaxed and my head is full of the most vivid memories, sordid, pleasurable memories. I know in life I advocate what is good – modesty, restraint, truth, respect. For without these fundamentals it would be impossible for me to exact the unending pleasure that I do from the most detestable thoughts and acts. I wonder in death will I continue to epitomise all that is abhorrent.
A sudden sharp prick ruptures my unbridled pleasure and the memories become ensconced in agonising pain. However, as the hazy shroud begins to lift, memories subside and the pain begins to dull. The clearer my surroundings become the number my mind begins to feel and I realise that, alive or dead, something is very different.
