yeah. I post alot from my phone. In fact all of todays posts have been from my phone. But I was sitting down, using both hands and taking my time... That post was while walking and using one hand.
Don't know why the picture is upside down...
The back of the flyer is the usual waffle about creation.
    They have singing puppets...

Singing puppets? That's how you know they're good.

    what kind of dollars??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,097 ✭✭✭kiffer

actually... The flyer is very positive on the evolution front. Walking and reading is all so cumbersome.

edit: rather than lots of little posts i'm editing this into one...
Ok the creation half of the flyer is worse than a usual creation flyer...
The evolution half is very life affirming...

I think there people are fake creationists in some sort of plot...

Half eight, Friday evening? Must have missed them by inches since I was heading home from dindins with a few friends on Chatham Street around then.

From the photo above, their dollars look as convincing as anything else they're handing out.

I wonder how they'd cope with a rival group next to them singing (louder) "Always Look on The Bright Side of Life"... :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,097 ✭✭✭kiffer

Well when I went back by later they were still singing and telling stories but a mad percushon group had set up just down from them... Even with the big speakers they had the drummers sounded louder and had a better energy than the singing puppet show, and the harsh voiced storyteller...

I have a couple of their flyers and a CD... All the flyers that I got are about Hell... Punishment... Sin...
It's really depressing, not one thing about compassion for your fellow humans. Not one thing about striving or trying to be compassionate, loving or caring...

edit: edited title to make more sense...

Dammit, don't you realize how appallingly militant we'd look doing this?

We'd have to bring some writing materials so we would look really militant... Writing books, right there.
Does anyone have an old mechanical type writer? It'd be the opposite of a book burning...

I passed by at 3ish today, they were there again. I assume they were just setting up as the puppet weren't singing yet

With that many books being written all at once there's about to be some papercuts.

My guess is they'd sing along. I'd say they're likely to be familiar with the song without knowing where it comes from.

I wonder if they know you need a license to busk on Grafton Street...

I will never understand why some of these Christian groups make such a point of being creationist. You would think that being creationist is more important than being Christian to them. I wonder if some of these obscure churches see accepting young earth creationism as being necessary for salvation?

Hang on, are they offering $10000 for proof of evolution, or proof that all life evolved? Could be easy money if it wasn't a certainty that they'd change the goal posts.

edit: I also like the irony of showing the money/flyer with your opposable thumb.

I seem to recall Dawkins interviewing that guy who runs the Creation Museum, and when asked why it's so important that creation be true, the guy said that if Genesis is metaphore, and Adam and Eve was just a story, then you might as well say the whole Bible is metaphore. His position stems from his 'need' for the Bible to be the truth, so if one thing is wrong or isn't factual, then it undermines the rest of it.

I remember another prominent Creationist offered a massive cash reward for something similar. Of course his definition of 'evolution' involved proving that life spontaneously evolved from non-life and you also had to prove the universe was created without divine intervention. Basically you had to unravel all of the mysteries of the universe in one fell swoop (I'm working on it...).
Actually, there were also doubts cast as to whether he even had the money he was offering IIRC.

I offer €10001 for proof of creation.

Long time lurker, first time poster. It is probably "Dr." Kent Hovind that you are thinking of. And his definition of evolution even went as far as the creation of the universe, and beyond, if I'm not mistaken.

As to the question of whether he had the money... Well he is now in prison for tax evasion, so he probably had it at some stage.

Yeah, see here how he worded his challenge:
I have a standing offer of $250,000 to anyone who can give any empirical evidence (scientific proof) for evolution.* My $250,000 offer demonstrates that the hypothesis of evolution is nothing more than a religious belief.

    * NOTE: When I use the word evolution, I am not referring to the minor variations found in all of the various life forms (microevolution). I am referring to the general theory of evolution which believes these five major events took place without God:
    1. Time, space, and matter came into existence by themselves.
    2. Planets and stars formed from space dust.
    3. Matter created life by itself.
    4. Early life-forms learned to reproduce themselves.
    5. Major changes occurred between these diverse life forms (i.e., fish changed to amphibians, amphibians changed to reptiles, and reptiles changed to birds or mammals).

You would practically need to build a time machine and bring him back to the beginning of the universe as proof for what he wanted. The first three points actually have nothing to do with evolution at all

Apparently they were there. We were gonna go down and give 'em a chorus of Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life, but we didn't want to give up our seats.
