    Hi all,

I have just had sky+HD installed yesterday, and have to say am very impressed so far.

I have one question. In the manual that came with the box (a Samsung one I believe), it shows a 'New' tv guid /planner with mini-tv showing in the corner.

My box still shows the old EPG/tv guide and I wondered how do I upgrade to this new one?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Due to bugs they have delayed the release of the new EPG to Samsung and Amstrad machines.

that explains things. Thanks for that. Any ideas on a timescale for bugs o be fixed and then rolled out?

    Thanks again

Nobody seems to know, they keep shifting the deadline. Until it is fixed you are better off without it, because it would cause you a lot of heartache and missed recordings.

I have the new EPG because I luckily got a Pace box when I was installed a few weeks ago. The little window is great in 'Other Channel' mode because you can see whats on without actually selecting the channel full screen, then if you're a channel hopper like me you can easily select the next channel to see what's on without the rigmarole of going in and out of other channels all the time. It is also very good for recording a series, when you select a programme it asks you do you want to record once or record series, which is a lot better than the buggy series link which I always had trouble with the old EPG. It also stacks the episodes in a series which keeps the place reasonably clutter free. It will come to you eventually, there is a lot of pressure on them to get it right.

    Yep, as above.
I had HD installed a few weeks ago, got a Samsung box and it's got the old EPG. There are loads of threads over on avforums about it, nobody seems to know a definite date, not even Sky themselves!

do they still use the Pace boxes or are all new installs samsung?

Might get Sky HD soon, so if I can get (by request) one of the Pace boxes that is the route i would go.

It seems to be a combination of the three (Pace, Amstrad and Samsung), pot luck really. When the installer rang me the day before, I asked for a Pace. He hadn't got any, but called me back an hour later to let me know he had sourced one from a colleague. It's worth asking the installer anyway.

The installer who did mine only had Samsung and Amstrad, he recommended the Samsung over the Amstrad, which seems to be the consensus generally.

He also had a few Pace boxes - all of them were rejects though! Apparently lots of pace boxes have had faults, probably EPG related, which might help explain why the other boxes haven't got the new EPG yet.

According to the Digitalspy forums they are saying that the new guide are being rolled out to Samsung boxes next week. Either Tuesday or Thursday at 3am...so not long left guys:D:D

TBH I prefer the old EPG. It was nice and easy to use and worked with litlle to no problems.

The only benefit of the new EPG is for ITV HD. It looks nice but can be buggy and it doesn't work as smoothly as my Sky+ box. Plus it takes too many clicks just to watch a channel from the TV Guide.

Has anyone with the new EPG had any problems with their favourite list and scrolling through their favourites with the blue button?

What I do not like about the new feature of scrolling favourites with the blue button is the fact the first press brings you to the last viewed station, so if you are surfing through the channels with the arrows and press blue, instead of being brought to your next fav programme you are brought back to your last viewed programme, a pain.. and I have also noticed that there is a 2-3 sec lag time from when you select a programme to the actual programme appearing on your screen.

Also getting some distortion (usually lasts 1-2 seconds), though usually on something I've recorded...

    hello all,

I got a Pace HD box installed yesterday, but it still has the old guide.
How long does it take for the new guide to download?.... Is there anything I can do to force the download? Do i need to call sky?

You can do a forced software update to pull it in immediately...simply do the following

Swtich off for 2 mins by pulling out its power cord at back of the box. Find and hold the backup button on the top of the box and return the power lead while still holding the backup button.

After a min the box will switch on a message will appear on screen telling you its updating the software do not unplug whilst its doing this...it will switch into standby when finished and will enable you to switch it back on about 2 minute after this....

It should then reboot with the new epg...enjoy..

    Thanks a million Steve!!....Worked a treat!!

I really love the new EPG. They have improved absolutely everything!!!
(with the exception of the Blue button now doubling up as fav's and last channel - They should have used some other button to switch to last channel).

However, I still have one problem.... I get asked to enter my pin when I go into the "other channels" menu.
Anybody else have this issue? or better still, Anyone know how to turn off this PIN requests?

    Thanks!

There is no way off turning the PIN Lock off. It's there as Sky don't what you using it, but they must have it there to met with some EU laws.

My channels are always missing, like i put them in and 3 days later there gone. Any help about this.

I don't have to enter any pin number when I go to other channels.

Sky has now said that all HD boxes will be updated with the new EPG no later than spring of next year (2010).

It's the Amstrad boxes that have caused he delay according to Sky which is "funny" as Sky bought Amstrad of Sir Allen some time ago

I've searched absolutely everywhere Steve.... can you give me the exact path?
As I said above, the only thing i can think of is that i don't have a phone line connected - maybe i need to call sky to disable this (same a changing my pin).

Thanks John...I know how to get to parental control.... I just can't find any reference to PIN control for the "other channels" menu. I've tried turning off all pin requirement, but still get the PIN request when I go into "other channels".

Also, Is there any way of turning off PIN control for pre watershed viewing of over 15/18 movies???? I've been told that this is a ComReg requirement.

"Other Channel" PIN Request problem solved!!!
(after about 30 minutes of trial and error)
Turns out that if you have hidden the Adult channels, you need to Input a PIN to access the "Other Channels" menu.
This is obviously to close the back door for clever kids who would manually tune in the Adult Channels.

Thanks to everyone for their help!!!
