jusus, my band does a lot of those 4 of those exact songs :p

However, if people want their band to make money, they have to play those songs, sad but true. just over 2 years ago a we started gigging, had a fairly good list imo, did songs by fairly popular bands, but not just the "hits". When ever we gigged in a pub we were background noise, crowd didnt care. A few pub owners told us to add a few big hits into the list. We weren't really going anywhere, so we decided to "sell out":D we now have a 2 hour set of crowd pleasers, get loads of gigs and the odd 21st. also we get paid more because we bring a crowd into the pub!

we gig in the wesht, people's idea of rock is KOL's last album, the blizzards and the killers. in dublin/galway/cork a "heavier" list will go down a lot better than in the west

In conclusion, i have no problem with bands that play a list like that, anymore! I used to hate them, but I understand where they are coming from now

    pm sent to the OP!

Yeah, I left the world of cover bands for this reason. I understand that you have to play some crowd-pleasers, but I felt like an old jukebox, in the end. I was so put off music, I stopped playing for about two years. It has only been recently that I have gotten back into it.

Its not what you play, its how you play it.. Put your own little twist on a song to make it more interesting for youself i.e. alter your strumming technique, drop in or out a verse or chorus etc. and you'll soon be enjoying the covers:D

Whether you like the above songs or not, If your in a covers band you have to play what the crowd want. Unfortunately for you, the songs you listed above is what 99% of pub goers want to hear.

The sooner cover bands realise that they have to play what the crowd want, not what the band want, the better the cover band scene will become.

i agree 100% we go into the crowd a lot with the guitars and stuff, drunk people seem like that! as KISS say, its all about the performance. for the record, I HATE kiss!

    www.myspace.com/craiceannband

great for a dance type crowd. loads of pumpin bass ( real bass drums... ) and traditional african & brazilian dance grooves.

Therefore all cover bands play the same boring set to drunken morons. Pretty much nail on the head there. That is why I will never lower myself to playing in a cover band again.

I don't think thats a very fair comment to make about people who play in cover bands. Usually you play in a cover band to have some fun, play some tunes and make some money. You can play good tunes in a covers set without them being all boring tunes. The same could be said for having to sit down in a pub and listen to original bands play tunes that are boring and only great in their own heads. Don't think you are above people who play in cover bands just because you play in an originals band.

    good post
"wouldn't lower himself to play in a covers play"
    how derogatory.
This is a thread about a woman looking for cover bands.
What kind of person would write a post in this thread saying they wouldn't lower themselves. ridiculous
I've always said it and firmly belive it
There's 100's of covers out there that are brilliant to play, that the crowd will like and are fun and exciting to play
Maybe that other lad should just give up music altogether
The two would probably better off

Off topic: It's the difference between amateur and professional, 99% of original bands are pants and pumped up on their own ego

On topic: Who and Where is Sinead O B?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,211 ✭✭✭lmahoney79

I have no idea who this Sinead is.....i have asked her more than once where this pub is and what it is called and still no reply??? Does anyone know??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 171 ✭✭srvhead

    Anyone get a reply??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,103 ✭✭✭North_West_Art

I heard 2 different bands play Hey Joe within a minute of each other in two different pubs in Letterkenny one night... all bands do is imitate each other... theres the same old tired set list in circulation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,211 ✭✭✭lmahoney79

This forum is not about the caliber of cover bands out there...if someone wants to talk about it then start a new thread.........In the mean time, yes i have spoken to Sinead through PM's but she seems to avoid the question of where the pub is??

I was wondering about this from the start. I would have thought she (maybe it´s a "he" for all we know :D ) would have named the pub and location at the start. Why all the secrecey

You have not really answered the question though, have you ?...... i.e. where

This is gonna be locked unless we get a town name where the bar is in 24 hours.

Good discussion on why do cover bands play the same set though. Defo worthy of another thread.

    \edited to add:

In case sinead comes back saying why it's important, it's important to know because of transport etc. Leinster is a pretty big place.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6 sinead o b

Actually i never mentioned what songs i would like played as i am aware my taste is completely different to everyone else. All i am searching for is a lively band that PORTLAOISE (happy!!!) has never heard of before. whats the point in having the same bands in every bar every weekend??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 288 ✭✭yoursaviour1989

    pints in portlaoise anyone?:p

    No Strings Attached!

We can do any gig, anywhere.

We play all styles and can cater to any event.

We can do a full Trad set, Blues set, Rock set, or something in between.

    Rates are reasonable also.

    PM me if interested.
