Inspiration?

Sorry if there's already a thread on this but I couldn't dig one up -

How do you guys get inspired when you hit a slump? Writing prompts? Websites? Staring blankly out the window until the elusive muse cames back from her latest shopping trip?

    Any recommendations?

Sometimes, you can be prompted by a specific object or phrase, but a lot of the time, it's a matter of putting words on paper, even if you haven't a clue where they are going.

For what it's worth, my "method" is to walk to somewhere with decent coffee, while obsessing about my story on the way. The combination of walking and thinking seems to work for me, so when I get there and get my coffee, I'm often ready to write. Getting away from the house helps, I'm not tempted to get up halfway through to take in washing or sort socks.

For me, I most often get blocked when I've read, seen or watched something else and my mind wants nothing more than to write something related to that. So often, I'll write a little side story to get that out of me and then go back to the real project.

Other than that, all I can recommend is to just get something down, even if it's crap. Try and work through it?

Ring someone you haven't rung in ages, apply for a license to drive an 18 wheeler, bake a cake and leave it outside someone's door with your number on it. Satisfy that part of you that wants to do things you never do.

I agree, do something totally different, step out of your comfort zone :) Let your imagination run wild :)
