    hey guys,

my dell inspiron 1521 is giving up on me it seems, the fan doesnt seem to be woroking all too well, as the laptops getting hot enough to scald and several times a day gets too hot and shuts itself down, as well as this the dvd drive isnt working either, disc goes in and spins and everything but thats it, no recognition anythings happened on-screen. It's nearly 2 years old now, and I've heard most dell laptops start to die round that age, just wondering do ya's reckon its worth getting fixed, i rang dell and its outta warranty, €35 for a support call, and then if the fans completely shagged(i have rid it of dust) its a new motherboard which is gonna set me back a fair few shekels, as is the case with the new dvd drive. and after 2 years it could just more problems after these are fixed.

    cheers

cleaning the fans with a vacuum cleaner is worth a shot

also check you are on the latest BIOS as DELL have a lot of temperature tweaks

put sticky feet on the laptop / use a stand to ensure plenty of air flow into it

Well it could all be as a result of the fan failing, and the heat build up affecting other components. Tbh, i would expect the laptop to last a lot longer, and it is by no means a Dell trait that they fail after 2 years. Mine is going strong after 3/4 years at this stage, and mine was a consumer level inspiron too.

went to change a couple of boards yesterday for overheating, the heat sinks on both were blocked with hair fur and someother strange crap, get a airduster and blow the hell out of it , a dvd drive will cost very little
