    Quick question....

After 20 yrs I'm switching from sky to cable (and hoping I've made the right choice)....

My billing date is 2nd of each month with payment made on the 16th but I cant remember if its payment in advance for sky or retrospectively - ie if I cancel it today, will I get cut off on the 2nd September or is it pulled immediately & billed back to todays date ??

    cheers

    Andi

You can cancel today. They will try and convince you that you dont need to and then when you ring back on the 26th (their suggested date) the payment will already be gone. If you are cancelling just do it straight away its cheaper.

Cheers - I'll phone them today - just wanted to make sure it wouldn't go immediately (not before the kids are back to school anyways !!!)

Sky are quoting a 31 day cancellation period - even thought I'm way over the 12 month contract....is that small print ??

I've asked myself the same question as you in recent times. However, having to pay €10 everytime you downgrade your package and knowing that if I ever had to cancel cable for financial reasons I'd have no equipment and no channels to watch was a big factor in keeping me with Sky.

Even with Sky offering to knock €20 a month off of my bill to stay with them, it just made financial sense for me overall as I currently pay:

    €100 Sky World €100
    €80 UTV Phone/broadband 7.3Mb
€25 Eircom Line rental for a fax line

    Now will be paying

€152 for Full channel Digital HD +(recordable) with multiroom + 20Mb broadband & both phone lines

Plus huge brownie points from the missus as she can record The Bill on ITV !! :D

I cancelled a little while back for same thing and just got a bill for €27 to bring my account up to date????? funnily after many years dealing with sky whenever I rang I always got someone in Scotland but when I wanted to cancel I was put on to the Irish office who tried to convince me to stay with them.

Looks a great deal for you with big savings! I can see why it makes sense to you.Best of luck with it.

It would be interesting to get your feedback in a couple of months as to how you find it overall.

Ok so I've had nothing but hassle with UPC/Chorus - broadband has been appalling to the degree that they've offered to with no charge to me at all for usage to date...

Anyways, I contacted Sky asking about their €80/month stay with us offer, only to be told that the offer was only valid if I didn't cancel, but now I've cancelled they wont offer it any more !!! - I'm tempted to tell me to stuff it to be honest - I'm on the Sky World Package - surely its worth their while offering me the €80 deal still ?
