I am thinking of buying a Mitsubishi L200 Passenger Cruecab from a dealer in the in the uk it is 14,000 Excluding VAT,
If i submit a 411 form that i am removing the vehicle from the uk i pay the vat in Ireland,Now this is were i get a bit confused as it states in ireland that if the vehicle is more than 6 moths old or over 6,000 miles which it is i do not have to pay vat in ireland just vrt,

    Hi Dooley

I do not know anything about UK VAT so I cant tell you anything about the form 411 and what it does.

I believe the motor vehicle you are buying would not appear to be classed as a "new form of transport" and therefore distance selling rules apply for VAT purposes.

If the dealer sells more then €35k worth of sales into Ireland then he is obliged to register for Irish VAT and charge you Irish VAT on the sale. If he does not sell €35k of Irish sales then he must charge you UK VAT.

You then go along to the Irish authorities and pay your vrt as appropriate.

I am VAT registered here in Ireland. When I bought a van from the UK, the seller (also a business) checked with his accountant and sold me the van EX VAT. I never paid the UK VAT in the first place.

    Hi Supercourse

I assumed that the OP was an individual not registered for VAT.

If you are registered for VAT then it is an inter EU acquisition and you account for VAT on the sale and take a corresponding credit for this VAT on the purchases. Thus no net payment for VAT arises. So in your case, you are correct and your UK accountant was also correct.

If you are not a vat registered business then VAT is payable somewhere along the line.

    Kind Regards
