Are the banks giving loans that can be paid back with the first grant cheque?

    Which is the best bank?

I dont have an account in a building society, if I set up a new one will they really require me to have a history with them before giving me a loan?

Well my college allow you to register late. It's in late Sept but it think you can organise with them for Oct (last year due to me having studied abroad the previous year they didnt let me reg until almost Nov)

Maybe yours is the same? It's an extra €50 for us

the letter will be sent out next week now....

still dont know what the news will be but woman i was talking to when i rang the council said it just needed someone to sign off on it.

hopefully it will all work out.

FYI, the banks no longer do student grant advance loans and a student loan is about 6% interest. you pay off the interest during the college year and the original amount once you are finished. if you show them you are getting a grant they are pretty good for the loans. i heard somewhere, maybe the irish times that lending is down less than 5% from this time last year so its not as hard for small personal loans as people may think.

got the grant anyways so good luck to everyone and enjoy college!
