    Howayis,
Has anyone out there tried this?
I have an AT&T sim (a GoPhone prepaid sim) for work calls when in the US.
If I buy an Iphone 3Gs here on o2, can I pop my US sim in when Stateside and enjoy all the same benefits as the o2 service.
Is this too easy to be true?
    heres hoping.....;)

    Sort of.

RE: Phone calls, sms - you can still make these. However, super-important is going into an 2 shop and finding out the rates for roaming. Ther are a few horror stories out there.

    But it'll work :)

But this will be with my AT&T sim, so no o2 roaming!
Will I be able to use it for web/data with AT&T GoPhone sim?
    Cheers

Aha, sorry, my fault for not reading your post properly :)

I don't honestly know the answer to that, but I'd imagine that you can't just switch sims like that. The guy in the 02 shop probably wouldn't know either, best emailing AT&T - though you may never get a reply!

I'm sure someone else her will know...

I work for O2 - you cannot use any sim that is not O2 Ireland in an iPhone bought here, simply won't work. In fact, even after people have had them ages and spent several grand, apple still won't allow us to unlock them as we do for other phones.

Mikesound, you might know this already, but you will have to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone to work with a sim other than 02's.

If you are somewhat technically minded, its trivial to do this. If you are not, there are places & people that will do it for a nominal fee.

There are some caveats of jailbreaking, one being that you cannot use iTunes update feature for your iPhone and also Apple as well as O2 will not "offically" support your device. This is generally a case of "unjailbreaking".

Just to note as well that this will void all warranties on your phone and breaches your contract as far as I'm aware.

It may, but you can restore a phone to factory defaults and it will wipe any trace of unlocking/jailbreaking.

The bottom line is any phone that is locked (as the iPhone in Ireland is) will not allow you to use a SIM from a different carrier.

Have a read of the stickies at the top of the forum for full details.
