Stained Glass - copper foiling supplies 7 yrs old

Hi,

Finally kids getting a bit older that I have time to return to my hobby. Pulled out all my supplies, patina's, flux, copper foil (wee bit tarnished looking, but still sticks nicely to glass).
Wondering if this is ok to use? Or am I'm just better off resupplying. All were kept in dry, cool storage.
If I do need to restock, who'd do you find best for prices.

IMHO - use the foil that you have. If it's sticking to the glass ok, you're half way there! Have you tried applying any solder to it? I'd just be concerned that the tarnish, or oxidisation, of the foil, might prevent a solid solder. However, a decent flux should help with that. So, give it a go!

Patinas' and flux should be grand, as you've kept them dry & cool.

As for supplies - haven't a clue! I haven't done any glass work since my youngsters came along, took up photography instead! I used to get my supplies from hobbies in the UK, mainly because they where on-line and posted everything directly to me. Probably more local suppliers now, especially if you're in a city.

Thank you for your reply, I haven't soldered yet, just getting practise in with cutting. I've some great glass that I'd forgotten about and one ugly 'free sheet' that I got in pumpkin orange, so I guess that'll be my first 'tester' project to see if everything is ok.

I originally got my supplies in the UK too, living in Limerick and nothing really in the city at all for this hobby. Tried a local glass shop but they had silly pricès for glass.

I can second Dublin Art Glass, found them very good, but a bit expensive. I forgot all about them as it was a few years ago since I was last in there. Their prices may be better now

please check if you have any old solder that its not oxidized lead i fine to handle but its the oxidized dust that is a problam dont know where you are but i go to derry for my supplies

Hi Johnny,
I've made a couple of projects and the lead looks fine so far. I'll need to restock soon though, shopping around for best prices. Does the shop you go to in Derry have a website?

Thank you Johnny for the information. I'd love to see a picture of your work, 3ft x 2ft sounds a massive project. I'm only working on small panels at the moment, would love to progress to something bigger someday.

its not hard to go bigger infact i find it easier just slightly different tactics took me two weeks to complete i get them double glazed when finished
