I was just wondering how long it'ld take from the time I apply for the permit at the motor tax office to the time i'ld physically get the license...
And also right now i'm temporarily staying in limerick (home's in dublin) so can i apply for the permit here in limerick or do i have to apply in dublin where my home address is...??

And also one last question is would the motor tax office accept cash or laser or would i have to make a checque or draft or something for it?

    Thanks!

I applied for my Learner permit in Dundalk on Monday morning (at about 12 noon), and received the physical thing in the post on Friday morning.

I hope this helps - but I'd imagine it's different depending on where you are.

Also, it's probably worth noting that I applied for the Learner Permit on the 20/7 but according to the licence/permit itself, the date of issue was 22/7, so I think it takes a while to process before they post it.

If you go the limerick coco office they will give the license to you straight away, tis handy. AFAIK they accept cash and probably laser.

I tried to do this today in the Dundalk office for my full licence but I got told I needed proof of travel so now going in tomorrow with my flight details.

I applied for mine on a friday and got it on thurs the following week. While your waiting for it you get a piece of paper saying you've applied for it and you can drive with that. The tax office accepts cash also

Dunno, but for some reason in the Limerick office they will always do it straight away regardless if you're in a rush or not..!

    Cheers...
I'll try applying it in limerick then. I don't live too far from the motor tax office, so it should be handier applying for it here.

Officially you need your actual licence with you to drive, as in the green or pink laminated paper with your photo on it. You would usually get away with using the receipt, because it has all your details on it and prooves that a licence has been issued in your name, but it's all down to the Garda's discresion if you're stopped.
