    Hi There,

my sister is looking to have her wedding reception in a Private venue, in the style of a country house, castle etc.

She is from Wicklow and would like to stay within an hours drive from there.

    Any ideas?

Rathsallagh Country House in Dunlavin, West Wicklow, is a must. Its fabulous (but very pricey). You have exclusive use of the house for the day but must take 25 rooms at €225. I had my reception there and could not recommend them highly enough.

We used Lisnavagh near Rathvilly in Carlow and it is lovely. They hold about 80 guests in the house or you can get a marquee. You will also have to organise your own food and drink.

Not a big fan of the function room in Rathsallagh but it does have lovely grounds.

I was looking at the ardenode. Much more flexible than rathsallagh.

I shot a wedding in Ardenode, it was lovely. I was part of the guest list also and the food was lovely and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. I dont think it is a private house though, just a normal hotel

It doesn't operate as a public hotel. It serves lunch on a sunday, but thats it. Weekdays it doesn't open AFAIK. I was guaranteed exclusive use anyway.
