1x1" galvanised weldmesh, lighter gauge

    Hi folks,

I use 2x2" I think it's 3 or 4mm mesh to make my larson traps. But, I'm looking for 1x1" galvanised weld mesh of a gauge similar to what's used in mink cages. I want to make some artificial tunnels with it for a few traps I have knocking around.

I don't want to make the tunnels out of wood due to weight and general messiness.

My supplier of the 2x2" mesh doesn't make it lighter. Nor do I want stuff that's on a roll as it won't be rigid enough for what I need.

Any leads for me? Preferably in Galway or Mayo.

    ATB,

    John

John not sure if this wil help but i seen some sheets of stuff in atlantic homecare or somewhere like that. It comes in a sheet about 3 or four foot long. Rectangle sheets. Its not as strong mesh that is on the mink traps in shops. Did you ever try a wavin pipe?

I've seen that stuff Dusty, it's too flimsy. The tunnels will be around the traps to stop non target animals getting their bodies or an appendage caught in the traps.

I'm not a fan of the wavin pipe. Got some kill traps over from the UK which will do as they say on the tin. Both the live catch and wavin methods will rely on me killing the buggers myself and I'm looking for a different route.

No, no. I might well make a cage out of the wire as well. But, my main reason is to protect other wildlife from getting caught in the traps :)

I got some not so long ago in the local Co-op. Any around you? 1*1 Welded. Pricey though. 40 quid a sheet.

    Yeouch!

Actually, mate of mine looked into getting some of the 2x2" stuff locally, there was a difference of over €40 a sheet between where he priced it and I bought it, hmmm.

I'll have a phone around tomorrow and see what the story is. Though I would think getting it from a producer would be cheaper than a middle man if you know what I mean.

Big time. I learned that with rolled mesh for the last pheasant run. Straight to a steel merchant & saved a fortune. Needed the sheet fast on a SAT & had to be the rigid type so took the hit! Cheap Sat night as a result! ;)
