Liberty National hosts it's 1st PGA Tour event and the 1st leg (of 4) of the Fed Ex Cup Play-Offs.

The course has been 14 years in the making with a membership joining fee of $500,000. The course surroundings are spectacular, after all it stands next to Liberty State Park, a nature reserve and more beautifully - the skyline of Manhattan.

I have 1 main selection this week

    Dustin Johnson
has 4 top 10 finishes in 09 along with a win. He is a birdie machine and a powerful driver which is needed over this marginally long course. He is coming off tied 10th at the PGA. Johnson is striking the ball sweet, recently even Geoff Ogivly was totally amazed at how accomplished Johnson's game is, after a practice round together. He and Webb Simpson are the 2 best up-and-coming players in the US and I expect him to be challenging this weekend. 90/1 (boylesports)

Hunter Mahan and the above mentioned Webb Simpson are worth noting.

Best of luck to anyone else who has a selection.

Once again I did Harrington, took him at 14/1 to win the Barclays W/O Woods,

25 e/w, paid to five places though,

was going to do Allenby or Garcia for another bet, might regret not doing Garcia, hmmm :(...

Reading about all those bets placed is fair boring. It's not really golf talk.

The funny thing with padraig now is.. your just waiting for the blowout.

Last nite he didnt look to happy standing over his putts on the last few holes.

but if could get his feel back with the short stick he's got a great chance this wknd.

maybe the course suits him.. seems a like a half breed of a links.

What about this guy Ryan moore dude... is he seriously playing in just a pair of runners?

He looks so out of place... i love it!

Hopefully Stricker and Poulter keep it going to earn me a few pound aswell!!!!!!

Thanks. I'm on at 200/1. He was 600's on betfair but I have no cash in there to bet him. I bet him every tournament so will be nice if he can prevail. I had Yang for the PGA recently so another big coup would be welcomed. Will be interesting to see how he copes under the immense pressure, I don't know very much about his temperament.

    Padraig back to -4 today

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 732 ✭✭✭Famous45

Sadly Simpson recorded a triple-bogey at the par 3 11th (25yd wayward shot into the water) to move to -5 from -8 but birdied 2 holes on the home stretch to move back into contention on -7 two shots behind the leaders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Harrington going in to the final round on -4, the same mark as Woods, five shots off the lead. Another 67 or better and who knows, should be a good evenings golf.

If you got to PaddyPower.com and go to betting on The Barclays and click live leaderboard, then scroll down the pop up and you should see a link to see it live,

    it says Live@ Watch Now,

    it's really good quality...

Even though Dustin won't win a huge part of me feels very satisfied that I made him my main selection this week, he hit 7 birdies today and no bogeys to record a score of 64 and -3 overall for the tournament. I know he has it in him just a shame he couldn't piece it together on day 2 & 3.

Padraig should be 6 under after 13 - 2 off lead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Harrington just birdied the par five 13th, two off the lead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭soundsham

nice run from PH, pity about the bogey just before he got going but he is looking solid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 683 ✭✭✭webels

16 is the one I would worry about for Padraig hopefully he doesn't go for it with driver. BYW Tiger now at -7 also

Those fedex cup points make no sense. They keep saying they're gathering points at this tournament, and the next 2.But then the points are reset for the last tournament. What's the point of racking up points now if they're reset for the last one anyway?

The #1 seed going into the Tour Championship is automatically given 2500 points after the reset. 30th place gets 205 points. People seeded 6-10 will have a decent chance of winning the Fedex Cup if they win, those seeded 1-5 would definitely win the Fedex Cup with a win.

That's a bit overly complicated isn't it?Why not just have normal playoff's, losing so many each week and then everyone's on an even keel for the Tour Championship?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 732 ✭✭✭Famous45

Well they ain't on an even keel, if someone 6-10 wins and Tiger is 2nd then they don't win (I think). The number 1 seed still has a huge advantage it just means that everyone else has a possible chance of winning. If you've watched it over the last couple of years since its been introduced then I think most people welcome this, I for one do and can't imagine why anyone else wouldnt. The Tour Championship will have the probably the most consistent players there so they deserve to have a shot at the title allbeit some of them will have a slim chance. They havent explained it very well during coverage probably because none of them actually know the procedure themselves so dont expect it to be mentioned until the final event.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 732 ✭✭✭Famous45

Wow what a break for Tiger

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 751 ✭✭✭BiffoGooner

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Harrington is gonna need to birdie 18 to have a chance of a playoff at best.
