The Barclays (Golf)

Liberty National hosts it's 1st PGA Tour event and the 1st leg (of 4) of the Fed Ex Cup Play-Offs.

The course has been 14 years in the making with a membership joining fee of $500,000. The course surroundings are spectacular, after all it stands next to Liberty State Park, a nature reserve and more beautifully - the skyline of Manhattan.

I have 1 main selection this week

    Dustin Johnson
has 4 top 10 finishes in 09 along with a win. He is a birdie machine and a powerful driver which is needed over this marginally long course. He is coming off tied 10th at the PGA. Johnson is striking the ball sweet, recently even Geoff Ogivly was totally amazed at how accomplished Johnson's game is, after a practice round together. He and Webb Simpson are the 2 best up-and-coming players in the US and I expect him to be challenging this weekend. 90/1 (boylesports)

Hunter Mahan and the above mentioned Webb Simpson are worth noting.

Best of luck to anyone else who has a selection.

Yes 109 to be precise but I've no cash in there to take those odds so 90/1 has to suffice. Good luck with your bets.

A great opening round (-5) by Webb Simpson this afternoon

Once again I did Harrington, took him at 14/1 to win the Barclays W/O Woods,

25 e/w, do people think that could be a decent bet, paid to five places...

Webb Simpson -3 for 2nd round today -8 overall and leader at the half-way stage.

    I'm on at 200/1

He was 600's on betfair but as already said above I had no cash in there to bet on him so had to take 200/1. I've bet on him each tournament he has played this year and have mentioned in numerous posts when making golf selections. Fantastic prospect. Will be interesting to see how he performs under the immense pressure.

Sadly Simpson recorded a triple-bogey at the par 3 11th (25yd wayward shot into the water) to move to -5 from -8 but birdied 2 holes on the home stretch to move back into contention on -7 two shots behind the leaders.

Even though Dustin won't win a huge part of me feels very satisfied that I made him my main selection this week, he hit 7 birdies today and no bogeys to record a score of 64 and -3 overall for the tournament. I know he has it in him just a shame he couldn't piece it together on day 2 & 3.

    Went from 999/1 to 9/1.

What a putt from Slocum though.

Hey can anyone help me out here,

    I had a bet for Padraig to win w/o Woods e/w @ 14/1

    and I had 50 on the bet, ( 25e/w )

when I worked it out, it seems I'll get 28 Euro back from it?, doesn't even cover the stake, does that seem correct, or is the sums wrong?,...

what was the bet 1/4 or 1/3rd of the odds

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 740 ✭✭✭Cremated

1/4 the odds :(, if it's right, that means not even my full stake back ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭soundsham

    if for example you had €25 e/w at 14/1 ..... @ 1/4 the odds costing €50

ph coming 2nd would get you 1/4 of the 14's

but the fact there was a few players tied for 2nd will mean you may get 50% of the 1/4 of the 14's

odds and fractions will depend on your exact bet

the problem is everyone who had a tied 2nd gets payed a full part or a %age depending on what bet they bet

Also thank God that Jacobson didn't birdie the last also, would really have killed anything I had :D,

roll on the Deutsche Bank Championship :)...

Hey can anyone help me out here,
For each way bets dead heat rules apply. For example, if each-way terms quoted for a tournament are for the first 4 places, the 3 players tying for third place will be deemed to have dead-heated for third, fourth and fifth place with 1/3 stake lost and 2/3 stake settled at full place odds for each way bets on those players.

In a DEAD HEAT the stake money on a selection is divided by the number of runners involved in the dead heat. The full odds are then paid to the divided stake with the remainder of the stake money being lost.
    !

If you backed Padraig at 1/4 odds @ 14/1 you should still have gotten 5 each-way places. Therefore, as he was in a four-way tie for second the bookies will still only be paying out on five players with regard to each way so you should get the full amount and the dead heat won't apply. Your return should be €112.50 including your stake or am I missing something here?

    Correct.

I was told on another thread recently that I was basically crazy when I had backed YE Yang, as to why I didn't have an each way bet on him. I rarely bet each way on golf selections due to the underlying problem that happens week in week out when you actually lose money even though your player is in the reckoning, my outlook is that I would rather have €15 on the nose rather than have €10 e/w.

Yeah I dont think I'll be doing each way again, just pick a few golfers and do it on the nose,

still least I'm getting some of my stake back...

Just had my e/way bet on PH settled and got the full each-way, no dead heat so you should be getting the same. What bookie did you place with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 740 ✭✭✭Cremated

PaddyPower?, hope it's the same for me, big difference with 28.12 and 112.50 :D...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 857 ✭✭✭thedini

^^^^^^It has to be the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 740 ✭✭✭Cremated

Yeah got paid out on the full E/W,

so if Harrington had come tied for 5th would you still get paid out?, as it's for the first 5 places,

either way, I got 112.50, so I'm quite happy :D...

If he was in a two-way tie for fifth your stake would have been halved. A three-way tie and you would get a thrid of your stake at the odds and so on. I.e. If he was in a two-way tie for fifth and you had bet €25 e/way you would in effect have €12.50 e/way on and would get back €56.25.
