PS3 connection to Philips 220CW8 by HDMI->DVI cable

    Hello all!

Yesterday i was excited to receive my PS3 but frustrated later because of the connection problem. It's sure that the monitor 220cw8 has HDCP support, but it showed "can't display, change outsource to 1680x1050 60Hz to fit" (sorry i translate from Chinese). Even i didn't get chance to change to 720P to fit because the screen was black.

So I had to try on the old TV with normal cable, it works, but the quality is soooooo poor.....

I found that some you in this forum had successfully connected ps3 and 220cw8 by HDMI->DVI cable (or converter?). Please advice!

    thanks!

    Hi Eddie,

Once you are sure that the monitor is HDCP compatible then all you should need is a HDMI to DVI cable. These can be bought in any decent elctronics shop like Maplins, Peats or PC World.

When you connect the PS3 you might need to reset the display output from the Playstation. You can do this by holding down the power button for about 5 seconds. The PS3 should beep twice to let you know that its successful.

Let us know how you get on.

    Thanks K.H. !

I had tried yesterday to restore the default display setting but it didn't work. I'll try again.

is it possible to operate as follows:
    1. connect both TV(by s video cable, red, white and yellow) and monitor (by HDMI->DVI cable)
    2. on TV screen, choose "display setup" to change to HDMI output. (but monitor still didn't work)
    3. operate by listening to the sound....to choose 480p or 720p to save the setting
    4. then monitor can show properly

it seems to be impossible to operate by sound....

Maybe i will try to find a friend with HDMI TV to set my PS3 on his TV then plug to my monitor...

anyway, i'll keep trying. I still feel my monitor is too good to get retired....

Leave it connected to the monitor only.
Reset the display settings for the PS3.
When it asks you if you want to use HDMI, choose yes.
When it asks if you want to use automatic settings choose no, otherwise it'll try to use 1080p.

The man speaks the truth. Also because you are using DVI you'll need to use the optical out for sound. DVI doesn't carry sound and as you're not using he composite connection you can't use stereo out from there.

and as you're not using he composite connection you can't use stereo out from there.
You can, I use it, just select it in audio setup.

    Hey guys, let me update.

First, i'm sure that my monitor can show ps3 although it's 720P at most. it doesn't show when power is on because system automaticly turn to 1080p which is not fit to my monitor setting (it doesn't support 1080p)

yesterday, i tried again as the "blind" operation as follows:
    1. connect both tv and monitor, TV shows everything and monitor shows nothing
    2. go to display setting and turn to HDMI option, then TV turns off, monitor still nothing!!!
    3. operate by sound!!!! confirm the setting, choose not automaticly HDMI setting, choose 576P and 720P, then press right analog
    4. BINGO! the monitor works!!!

I was so excited even nearly cry....today is my birthday, ps3 finally becomes the real and in-time gift!!!

It should default to sending 576p through the hdmi cable if you reset the ps3 display, though maybe your monitor has problems with that too.
