Watch Fox News today, and I promise, you'll never forget Chappaquiddick. The image of that lake will become ingrained in your mind forever. It's turned into "Chappaquiddick TV".

Commentator: He was a great legislator, and...
Fox Presenter: Yes, but what about Chappaquiddick.

    "Over Macho Grande?"
"I'll never be over Macho Grande"

He was a little out of line in the Bork saga, though. Ever since then, Supreme Court nominees have been very carefuly to say absolutely nothing in the nomination process, making a bit of a mockery out of the whole deal.

He walked away from the Chappaquiddick crash and didn't report it till 9 hrs later . Unlike his brothers , He wasn't really presidential matierial and as his father Joe said of him '' Teddy will get found out '' .

But he did make his own mark on american politics .

Leaving the scene does not implicate him in letting her drown. He said in his official statement that he dived multiple times to try and see if she was in the car. Nobody knows the real story.

It does implicate him as anything but "Classy" as irishbob stated. He didn't report the accidnet until the next day and the diver testified that if Kennedy had notified them sooner she would still be alive. I know the liberals want to white wash him to retroactively make him a saint but there is no way to absolve him from that.

A person can drown in a matter of minutes. He already stated that he dived to try and see if she was in the car. I don't think he left her to drown. He probably assumed after multiple dives that she was already dead and that he could do nothing more. I'm not saying he's entirely clear of blame - but I don't think it went down in the way that you are describing. He probably wasn't aware of the time-frame for which she could have lived. How long can someone hold their breath anyways?

She was supposedly able to breathe from air pockets so she could have lasted long enough for him to get her out in the first place. If actually did dive in. If he did he obviously didn't try hard enough. Plus when he walked back to his hotel room he passed a Fire Station.

How was he supposed to know she could survive from air pockets?

I'm not disputing the amount of time he took to report it. I agree with you on that. I just don't think that he purposely let her die.

I don't think anybody believes that. People feel he should have been a man and accepted his responsibility for what led to her death and not use his family's name and influence to cover it up. The least he would have been charged with was DUI and Manslaughter or Negligent Homicide [just DUI if he called in time and they got her out in time]

I think that is a little harsh. There are so many stories and different versions of what happened. The most convincing version that I have heard of the what happened that night. Is that Ted was not in the car when it crashed. He had got out to avoid a reporter who was following him trying to catch him being unfaithful to his wife. Mary-jo took the wrong turn to the cottage that they where going to meet up and drove off the bridge. TK lied to cover up the fact that he was screwing around. Its the one story I found most believable but no one will ever know. He was also expelled from Harvard so I know he is no saint. he was spoiled but I think he did have a heart.

Politially the most left wing senator is dead, there probably wont be a moreleft senator

I would have put Barbara Boxer ahead of him. Might make an argument for Schumer or Rangel as well.

Part of the reason Kennedy got on so well in the Senate was that he wasn't all that far 'out there', that he was able to come to agreements with his Republican counterparts fairly frequently. He was one of the Democrats' most famous Senators, that doesn't make him the most left-wing.

Don't worry all the pro democrat stations(all but fox) will be falling over themselves saying how great he was and ignore the story of how he caused the death of a young girl and fled the scene.

Convincing to who? The ones who who want to retcon his life and make him out to be a saint? That maybe the statement he gave to the Police [again too scared to accept his responsibility. Typical liberal. Always someone elses fault. Never theirs.]

laura bush was involed in a car crash which left someone dead when she was young , doesnt mean shes a bad person , ted kennedy done a bad thing that night but the way its discussed by critics , one would think he actually held the woman down in the water , he was cowardly that night , thats all anyone can be sure of , the man did good things in his life following that incident , i dont think anyone can completley overlook the good he did and entirely focus on that one horrible event

Ted Kennedy was far from a class act

He crashed is car into the water with a woman inside and failed to contact anyone other than his lawyer buddies for 9 hours.

    He cheated at Harvard

In 2004 he helped introduce a law in Mass. that the Governor could not nominate a Senator if a seat became availabe, it would have to go to election, this was to prevent Governor Mitt Romney (R) replacing the seat of John Kerry (D) if Kerry won the 2004 Presidential election.

In his last days he sent a letter to mass legislators requesting that the above be 'watered down' (my words), by having the Gov. Deval Patrick (D) nominate a successor until such a tine as the election was completed.,

I seriously doubt that he would have requested this 'watering down' (my words) had there been a Republican Gov. of Mass.

If he did not drive drunk she would not be dead. Can we all agree on that?

Agreed. It wasn't a "Watering Down" per say. He wanted to change the law back to its original state where the Gov now names the successor. He didn't want a run-off in fear of it going to a Rep from all the backlash of the Healthcare and all the massive spending.

Yes, but even that isn't entirely fair, as there wasn't the same view on drink driving back then as there is today.

all the kennedy clan were bent ,edward and john had marilyn monroe killed, she was sleeping with them both, just before she was murdered she told her friends she was going to spill the beans on them, frank sinatra told everyone who would listen and named the names, both edward and john were killed by the CIA who then tried to cover it up,ted kennedy was responsible for that young girls death, very few people will disagree with that, when ted announced he was going to stand for president the CIA warned him off,and also warned off his granddaughter from standing in office, that was the reason for his change of mind,

Which currently active US politicians do you believe to be great men? Its very easy to knock people and try to be patronizing by suggesting that people other than yourself just listen to "mainstream media", nor is it in any way impressive.

With the amount of money it takes to get into Washington, I think its safe to say that corruption is rife on both sides of the aisle.
