What does it let you do? Why would I want it? Linux = OS for PC?

probably the only good thing bout linux ps3 is firefox, the browser is much better then ps3's browser...
that's it really, linux inst given enough access to the ps3's hardware for it too be of much use really
if you had an old pc or laptop, you'd be better testing linux on it then the ps3 imo,
    here's a vid

i had fedora 9 installed for a while but yellowdog 6.1 was big improvement on previous releases which is installed now.

it's only installed because i wanted to develop applications using the Cell B.E chip.

as BOBBY already said, linux doesn't have enough access to the hardware which is unfortunate because it's a great piece of hardware for the money.

there is a petition to have sony allow more access to the RSX(graphics) chip so linux games could run..unfortunately this is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Bit silly really. You can run into lots of errors as well. More trouble than it's worth imo

The problem there is if you give too much freedom to developers on locked down machines like consoles, you open your system up to a plethora of potential hacks that allow the PS3 to be compromised, getting games free etc.
