    Hi,

I got a letter that I have to go into the local FAS office (been on Job Seekers Benefit for a few months now).

the letter didn't really explain anything -

do I need to bring a CV?
what exactly will I have to do?
is it a one-on-one meeting or some kind of day course in job finding and interviews?

the thing is that I'm planning on leaving the country for a while after Christmas so I'm not interested in doing a FAS course or getting a permanent job. but I am keeping my eyes open for a job that will get me to Christmas at least - Should I keep that to myself when I'm in the FAS office?

also I've burnt my hand (just the palms nothing serious - doctor says its superficial and will be cleared up within a week or so with what he gave me), but how will the FAS people react to that? will they say "that means I can't work. blah, blah"?

    thanks

Bring your CV and don't be late. The purpose is to help you get work/training. Because you have been sent by the dole office you can 'skip' the queue to get on a Fás course - so might get on a short course that ends by Xmas. Also, they can call you back a few weeks later for another interview. There is little communication between Fás and the dole office so they won't say you're unfit for work unless you tell them!

    Cheers.:)

is there anyway to avoid a course? I really have no interest as I intend to travel for a few months and will have a job when I get where I'm going.

and I also got a call from an agency today about a possiblity of few weeks work.

if you're available for work you're available for a course... travelling doesn't count as being a jobseeker.

I know that but I don't want to be wasting my time with something that will amount to nothing.

hopefully I can get something before that happens,

Well that was painless after all.

the guy took some details and we meet again in a few weeks. no mention of courses.

hey i received the same thing, interview next week. Im just wondering is it a kind of casual chat type thing, or is it a formal interview? Should i wear clothes that id usually wear to a job interview...i dont want to be overdressed or underdressed ;)

the guy I spoke with was fairly laid back and it was a casual chat.

I looked borderline vagabond to be honest and he didn't seem to care.

but you never know - as my mother always says "at least make sure you've brushed your teeth and your underwear is clean":D
