A scene from Tomorrow Never Dies (NO! NOT THAT ONE! Although .. that one ... ooo ... ****ing eck man .. she was .. no .. wait .. back on topic!) springs to mind where the lads are trying to get into his car in the car park. That'll learn em :)

Obviously they would gather round a group of kids to watch them smoke it in order to teach them drugs are bad.

That would be so illegal in the US that they'd have the ACLU on them faster than you can say "Fourth Amendment"

Instead of nicking valuables, they might do better, perhaps, to leave the vehicle under observation and see who comes along who's not a constable and attempts to nick the stuff. Then nab 'em. Bingo, less crime. (assuming the judge actually sorts them out)

    NTM

If it makes people cop on, then go for it. If it's case of some muppet leaving a window open with a Satnav system inside, I bet they're glad the Met got there before some scumbag did.

If they did that, they'd have to deal with a criminal and a load of paper work. This is easier.

Next they'll be breaking into locked cars to show how poor your anti-theft system is.

"Ah, look at that! It's shoddy workmanship, I tell ya! Shoddy!"

    "Cowboys, Ted. Cowboys!"

Stealing valuables from people's cars is somewhat wrong for the police to do. They're supposed to be enforcing the law and setting an example, but by doing this they're not only breaking the law but also encouraging people even further. Has no one heard the saying two wrongs don't make a right.

If someone is repeatedly causing accidents, speeding, doing stupid things (not indicating etc) take the bloody car off them and crush it.

    Typical police. Jimmy McNulty ftw.

Best stereotypical "Irish" American cop ever.

How can this possibly be legal? Could i do it and leave a note 'i have your satnav. You can retrieve it at <local skangers pub>'?

i wish they'd do this with children left in cars by irresponsible parents, that pisses me the fook off. i remember once i was doing security in a shopping centre, and the police took a baby of about 8 months out of a car during christmas rush shopping time. the parents returned two hours later and said "we didn't want to wake him".

    fooking cnuts.

And people said Gerry and Kate McCann were irresponsible parents. Now that's really pushing it leaving a kid in an unlocked car.

Anyway now that i've thought about the topic a bit more, I think it proberly is a good lesson maker but I still think it's a little dodgy when you're a policeman taking things out of cars.

Hope they start that here, I can test out a few of my boobytrap designs. Stick his hand in the window and lose it.

Won't their little notes just be a helpful sign to highlight unlocked cars to car thief's.

I don't see why cars don't automatically lock once the key is out of range?
