    http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/health/2009/08/25/gupta.ireland.health.care.cnn

Working in a new job in the States, we have CNN on in the background in the office. I look up and there is a screenshot that comes across that says Ireland health Care Reform and the USA.

    I nearly ****.

Then the screen pans out to see Dr Sanjay Gupta and the back of the head of some beast sitting with it's back to the camera.

I stand up and say 'there's no ****ing way they are going to interview Mary Harney on Health Care Reform'.

    The beast speaks.........it is Harney.

My god, they should bring this woman in and do the opposite of everything that she says. Never in the entire interview did they ask what her qualifications were in regards to medicine or basic managerial skills.

This is the most terrifying aspect of change. Going to people who are supposed experts in things that they truly have no idea of what they are talking about.

    Dr Sanjay Gupta.
Out of Coronation Street? Are you serious?

On a more serious note, God help them taking advice from Ireland. Things must be really bad over there.

Maybe they'll adopt her. Or maybe it's a form of CNN sarcasm.

The good news is that they shot her mostly from the back.

The bad news is that they didn't use an elephant gun in the process.

Well if there is any where that Ms. Harney might be able to exert some influence, it's in the US with the rest of her kindred spirits.

What was she talking about? Yes, in Ireland, we ran into many problems in our healthcare. Here's what I'd advise the USA to do, having learned from our lessons in Ireland. As you all know, in Ireland we overcame our bloated, incompetant health service and now have the best health service in the world.

Im at work but - If she's holding up the Irish health System as a shiney beacon, then perhaps she has some crispy bacon lodged in her frontal lobe somewhere. I'd rather be poor than dead, waiting in one of your hospital queues. Sorry to say.

"40% of tax will be spent on healthcare this year "Is that true?

    On her health care maybe!

Yet another proud moment for the Irish. Not.

"40% of tax will be spent on healthcare this year"

    Is that true?

That's to pay her salary, the previous ministers' pensions, the junior ministers salary and their predecessor's pensions, Drumm's salary and don't forget all the consultants he needs to carry out the reform and I don't me MD type consultants.

    I questioned that too actually.

    Turns out its true: http://www.finance.gov.ie/documents/exchequerstatements/2009/July09pdfvers.pdf

€8billion spent in DoH. €18 billion taken in tax.

yeah and most of the 8 billion goes on wages , its expensive having the highest paid nurses and consultants in europe not to mention paying all the surplus to requirement ( unsackable without a strike) pen pushers
