    Hi All,

I am coming to Galway next week for a few weeks and need to find a good park/beach to run in/around as I'm training for the Dublin City Marathon.

It would have to be on a flat terrain, grass or sand preferably as I have been getting shin splints recently (ouch!) and it should be at least a mile all round/length - any ideas?

Will be running long distance (up to 20 miles) so a gym is out of the question…

I have tried mapmyrun.com but can't really find anything suitable so thought i'd ask on here...

    Thanks.

Dangan is a great place. Doing a lot of my training up there these days.

Its over by the river near NUIG.

Will post a Map later if you like

Renmore is good too. There a good few pitches sown there that are good to run around and there is a bit of a hill too so you won't be running on the flat all the time.

dangan is definately a very good place. it has changing facilities. if you run around all the pitches i think its about 3 miles. its just past nuigalway and you can walk from town.

Renmore pitches are about a mile altogether.

Think that Dangan is far nicer.

    hey there,
    where will you be based?
There are a few routes that can be really nice to train on....
For example going from Spanish Arch / The Long Walk out to Salthill and along the Prom, along the back of the Driving range, out to Knocknacarra cross, back into town via Taylors hill ......or something like that.....

Along the river (at the back of Dangan) and back by Newcastle
    etc etc!!

So, do you have an idea of where in the city you will be?

Thanks all for your replies... I'm delighted with the choice. It seems Dangan is the place to train... I looked on Google maps and it looks very far away... Am I right?

I will be staying in the city centre so anywhere within reach of there would be good.

    Thanks again!

You can enter the Dangan pitches by going through the main entrance of NUIG, which is right in the city centre. It's an easier access point, if you don't need changing facilities. Just run along the edge of the water and you'll find your way up to Dangan no problem. If you check it out on Google maps, it's a bit easier to visualise.

Find University Rd, then follow along the edge of the water - you'll see the pitches in the map view.

    Hope that helps.
