Okay ..... so this year I completed the TOICC in May and am looking for a challenge next year -- goal setting this week. I'm toying up doing the Marmotte and eTape but conversly there's also the RideAcrossBritian.

Does any one know of any other multiday events (preferably 4-6 days) in Europe or UK. I'm wanting something organised but tough and fun.

Of course I may change my mind and do Ironmans instead but thats another days thinking.

I know you're specifically asking about multi-day, but given your appetite for suffering what about the Three Peaks?

You can do the "Raam Week Long Commute Challenge"?

Essentially, I'll meet you at Sutton in the morning and ride as hard as I can to Clontarf and you try keep up. I'll then do the trip in reverse in the evening. Same goal. For this pleasure I shall charge you 250e.

Failing that, you could try the Cape Epic MTB race in South Africa

Edit: Just realised you wanted UK/Europe, sorry!

Trust someone from the baggy-shorts brigade to mentioned a MTB race. Would probalby do this before the cape-epic. http://www.mtbtransuk.co.uk/

There will be a Hamburg - Berlin - Koln - Hamburg 1500k, but there's not much in the way of detail available yet. Might be less organised than you're looking for too although given that it's being run by Germans, who knows.

If you are looking for a running partner I was playing football yesterday and realized I need to build my running fitness up...badly. I can cycle out north no problem.

I also need someone who is not affected by my whinging.

    Cyclosport.org Classics.

    ...and others on that site.

Between your self and myself I had a dream I did a triathlon last night... I also went out to hard on the 8km run and crippled over in pain. But still finished third. You may have been racing but I couldn't see you -- no you didn't win.

No problemo -- perhaps we can do some short trail runs (in Wicklow) in the evenings after 6pm. I could drive down. I'm looking forward to a few small technique runs.

thats not slow at all, anything under 4 hrs is very decent for a first marathon. and if your only 20mins off in training for 20miles you could well go quicker. race days are diff. i done a 19min 5k in a race and was only doing 21mins in training at the time. adrenalin is your friend!!

In your dreams. You can barely show up for a cycle a few minutes away from where you live, let alone cycle out to DNS to go for a run with the crazy kiwi.

Year-on-year, the standard in the Giro seems to rise. Emanuele Negrini, for years Italy’s top granfondo rider and regular winner of the Giro of Sardinia, was third this year. Ahead of him were in second place ex-pro Max Lelli (completed 14 Tour de Frances, ex-Italian time trial champion,…) while the race was won by the Lithuanian pro Vladimir Smirnov of the team ZenaProBike

Somehow I can't myself in that race :)

Screw it... I'll do it. Just kidding there may be a serious problem with the getting permissions from the wifey..... Aparently by finishing the TOI I didn't automatically quality for a weeks cycling every year away from Wife and child.... which is totally not how I see it :)

If anything it qualifies you for more time away, for longer. That's how I see it. I'll explain all when I see her next.

I cycled in Sardinia this year, it is beautiful and a perfect place for it, that Giro looks very tempting. As with all of these things you can do them at whatever pace you want, the Etape and Marmotte are also generally won by ex or indeed even current pros.

I emailed a guy who did Giro Sar in 08 and his opinion from talking to mates who rode TOI 08 or 09 is that if you can hang in Groups 1 or 2 in TOI you would enjoy this to the full. The weather and the shorter stages just make this a different type of challenge but one he would recommend to anyone.
