Student Number and Reg Fees

    Hey guys.

Where/when do I get my student number? I assumed I would get it at registration, but in the orientation book that I got this week it says that I need to fill in my CAO and Student number in the Registration form. Was I supposed to have got this by now?

Also, it says the registration fees (€1500+) needs to be in within 10 days. If I don't make that payment am I not able to go to registration, or are there any alternative methods?

Many thanks for any help and advice.

Your student number is the same as your cao number. So I think it starts with 09

Ok, thanks for that. It clears one thing up.

    What about the registration fees?

EDIT: Also, is it possible to pay the fees throughout the year, or does it all have to be paid at once?

I'm pretty sure it has to be paid upfront.

Go to registration. It's not optional. If you can't go at the exact time for your course - http://www.tcd.ie/vp-cao/sro/New%20Entrant%20Undergraduates%20Students.pdf - don't worry too much, just try to get in there that first week (Sept 21-5) or else sometime over the following week or so.

Reg fees as far as I know have to paid all at once - think it's only if you're paying full tuition fees that you can pay in two instalments, e.g. one now, one in January. Wouldn't over-worry about the 10 day thing though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭snappieT

You need to have paid the fee in advance of registration, or you'll be turned away (and have to pay a late charge). Payment by ePay needs 5 working days to clear before registration, other methods need more. Since registration doesn't start until the 21st, have it paid by the 12th and you'll be safe (later if you're not registering on the first day).

Mini thread hijack I know, but I'm liable for full tuition fees this year, and am hoping to pay in 2 installments. Does it work out as reg fee + half the actual course tuition fees for the first installment, then the second half of the course fees the second time? Or is it half and half? For some reason I've a feeling it's the former but if anyone could confirm that it'd be great. :)

Well on this it gives the breakdown of fees as including the registration fee so I'd imagine it's half of the whole shebang? Then again I haven't a clue and I'm in the same boat as yourself!

Does anyone know when the last day for payment of registration fees is on?

Rang the Treasurer's Office today and it works as follows:

First installment: Full registration fee (1500), sports centre charge (77), USI levy (8) + half the tuition fee (whatever that works out as).

Second installment: The second half of the tuition fee.

    So it was as I guessed.. kinda glad that I get more out of the way this semester.. the poverty though! ;_;

Sorry if this sounds stupid but..how do you pay registration fee? I sent back the FRS1 form but there's no form in my orientation pack to take to the bank and pay...

Whens the deadline to pay? I hope I havent missed it!

I was told that a fee payment form was on the way, but that was 4 days ago so not too sure when it's showing up. However since you've sent the FRS1 back to them in a couple of days your info should be in their computers and you'll be able to log into epay and pay via creditcard. I'm not sure though whether I should just go ahead and pay the 85 euro (I'll be elligable for a grant) or wait for the fee payment form first though, incase there's something that comes with it I'll need later on.

If you don't mind me asking, have you got confirmation that you're getting the grant? I applied but I wont know for a few more days! Should I just pay the whole registration charge and get refunded or...?! Very confused!

I've not received conformation, no. However I am positive I will elligable (only one parent, and so fall well below the lowest threshold). I emailed the treasurers office, and the woman there said that if I was confident I would receive it then just pay the €85 and ignore the €1500. So in essence, if you're pretty positive you're gooing to get the grant I wouldn't bother with the €1500.

Hmm..I can't get onto epay but i found this https://www.tcd.ie/Treasurers_Office/fees/feepaymentmethods.pdf So I guess you just go to the bank with those account details and pay the fees using the a Bank Giro...and I suppose bring some sort of receipt to registration? They really should have included this in the orientation pack instead of that confusing letter!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭Nihilist21

You could pay via a bank giro, yes. Either that or you should receive access to epay in a day or two - they just need time to process your FRS1. Furthermore I totally agree with you on the confusing part.

Give https://tcdlocalportal.tcd.ie/pls/fees/fees_app.main a go, epay just redirects you there anyway.

I just logged into that link there, and it says that the fees are due by Sept. 1st. Is this a deadline or would anytime that week, or even early the next week do? It'll be a push to have €1585 by Tuesday, so I hope they're flexible.

Yeah I saw that too. Didn't realise they'd want fees so early!

The epay site says September 1st, yet the booklet trinity sent out says 10 days after the bill is received, and as far as I know that doesn't come till after the second round offers, so probably next week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭snappieT

I'm sick of saying this, I've even already said it in this very thread. Fees are due minimum 5 working days before you register, if you pay by ePay.

This is really starting to bother me! I applied for a grant about 2 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything back! Wtf is going on?

I really haven't got 1500 to shell out on registration. HELP!

All well and good, but ya have to admit, its a fairly serious fcuk-up on trinity's part. Ive to pay full fees, and the letter they sent out says "1st installment due by 1st September 2009: €xxxx"
despite the fact that i only got it today! I know that it just has to be in 5 days before registration, but surely they could have made sure to change the date. I can see panic and horror on a lot of faces!

by the way, just throwing the information out there....i sent in the FRS2 form last tuesday, and got a letter back today, basically it's tellin me how much i have to pay, the various ways to pay, and then an actual Giro that you can bring down to the bank and pay with. Just in case anyone was wondering the setup. Still can't access Epay though, but i presume that'll come soon enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 170 ✭✭LauraLoo

celtic723: i was speaking to sdcc about the grant and they said that if approval hasnt been received before fees are due, to pay the fees and when you get approval they will issue the money to the college who will then issue you with a refund

Can we use AIB laser/maesto cards or whatever they're supposed to be to pay the fees? Mine doesn't seem to be working and I really don't fancy a trip to the bank.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 644 ✭✭✭Jeanious

Which payment cards can I use?
American Express, Visa, Mastercard or Laser.

So it should be ok, however id imagine Lasers have a daily limit on them so that might be your problem right there. Or maybe they just havent got the Epay site up and running properly yet or somethin.

I'm in the same position and phoned in today, the lady basically said that once it's sorted out by registration time it's fine. That 1st September thing gave me a bit of a worry headache the other day. :P What was worrying me was that I have to get something filled in by DCU, and given how long everything took when I was a student there I'm not even going to predict how long it'll take when I'm not. :P But she said not to worry about it. :)

Got to get them to fill in the FRS2? I had to do the same for RCSI, couldn't get hold of them on the phone (ridiculous office hours :D), but popped in when I was in Dublin for the day and was in and out in 5 minutes. So the solution, if at all possible, is to land into the relevant office in your old college! They'll hardly kick you out.. :pac:

Waiting on the giro now, only sent in the form on Wednesday so hoping to have it in the next few days. I have the money, but epay is a no go - no credit card. :(

If I went in on a Monday for a letter of attendence I'd be lucky to pick it up on the Thursday, so Christ knows what this will be like when they're busy.

Give the fees office a call if you're concerned but you could probably fill out the Giro in two weeks and it'll still be fine. :)

Do you need to get the previous college attendance thing signed? I had to, and ill tell ya, i wasnt in DCU ten minutes and i had it finished. Just head straight for the registry and they'll sort it for ya there and then.

I sent mine last tuesday evening and got it this morning (monday) so id say ya should have it by the 9th. I might be wrong, but are ya sure ya need it by the 9th? Registration doesnt start till the 21st, so the latest you could do Epay is the 14th (5 working days). Either way, id say ya should have it by the 9th anyway.

Ah right, nice one. Hopefully it'll be as simple as that, I was just basing it on the ridiculous past experiences I've had.

It took me a couple of months to get a letter of attendance out of RCSI for the CAO, but they managed this bit quick enough when I was there!

Ah I know, I just want to get it out of the way. Actually, quick question for anyone who might know - since I'm paying full fees this year I'm allowed to pay in two installments. If I were to do this, can I pay more than the set amount for the first installment and just pay less for the second before Feb 1st?

i.e. My fees of 7417 are broken down into two installments of 4501 and 2916. However, could I pay that as 5417 and 2000 instead? It would work out easier for me.. I'll ring the fees office tomorrow anyway, but thought I'd check in case anyone would know off the top of their head.. :)

Any time I needed a letter from DCU I went in in person. Once they managed to get the date wrong and I had to wait around for a little over 2 hours for a proper copy, not fun when you live about 50 miles from the feckin place. :P

I have nothing helpful to say for your question. :P I did ask if I could pay before all my forms were in since ePay seems to have already worked out what I owe but she asked me not to. I'm guessing they don't want to mess with the system. :pac:

Ah no it was last year when I was trying to sign on. Firstly I had a ****load of hassle de-registering, then had to go in a few weeks later for a letter. It was the 1st of October and rather than put the right date (the 10th of September) they put the 10th of October on it. :pac:

Ah, painful stuff. :( Yeah, having to travel repeatedly to force people to do things right must be a tad irritating!

Epay has the right amount for me aswell (we already had to provide info to the CAO to prove attendance dates etc, why more now :(), but I'll leave it 'til I get the giro anyway.

Here's hoping! I'll give them a buzz in the morning (well, when I wake up. More like afternoon) and will post up the result! I'm just afraid I'd pay more than I need to but they'd still come after me for the usual second installment as opposed to the smaller one I'd need to pay.. Admin types like ignoring receipts, I've found.. :pac:

No idea, I mean I'm paying the most I could possibly be liable for anyway, yet I still have to go up and down to appease them. Still, decided to use the day in Dublin to hit Trinity to get some idea of the best plan of attack to get there every day since the bus is my only option for the foreseeable future, another pain. :pac:

Well, called the fees office today, the very helpful man there informed me that I could indeed pay more. Basically the first installment (in my case, the 4,501) is the absolute minimum that must be paid by registration for anyone liable for tuition fees. However, there's absolutely no problem with paying more (I had noticed on epay that it does give you the option of specifying how much you're paying instead of the stated amounts). Basically, once you have your first installment in on time, and the lot paid by Feb 1st, it doesn't really matter what you do in between - apparently you can pay off bits at a time in between etc, which interested me because I thought you had to pay in 2 installments and that was that! But I guess if they're getting more money earlier on they're happy. :pac:

Not sure how one goes about this with the giro, but my mother informs me that one can pay a different amount to that specified on the giro also, so that shouldn't be a problem either.

Sorry just joining the convo now...

I just paid my registration fees there. Everything on the computer was correct, i.e. my name, course, amount I had to pay, etc. Does that mean I still have to return the yellow FRS1 form? And if yes, by when?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,383 ✭✭✭Aoibheann

I'd return it anyway. Mine's right on epay but the guy in the fees office advised me to wait 'til I got the giro back to be safe..

Thanks a million for that, very good to know! By the way, the giro has an empty box for the € amount so ya could fill in whatever ya like there as well.
