Attended one of these events this evening. Basically the Commission has engaged a consultant to travel around the country (and has also done so in the other 26 member states) to inform people about the workings of the EU and answer questions people may have about Lisbon or any other aspect of the European Union.

Although tonight's was not voluminously attended, the quality of debate was quite high, some simple questions asked and answered and some issues that could not be taken for fact were brought up by some cantankerous old man who shouted loudly anytime the camera passed by him.

Eddie McVeigh was the Commission delegate who spoke well and distinguished national issues very much from European ones. It was well worht attending and I would encourage others to attend one locally. There are events coming up in Waterford and Cork and also a website

I attended one in Dun Laoghaire, and the Environmental one in Dublin.
Agree with ninty9er. Good quality of debate.
The environmental listening event was very interesting since lot of representatives from environmentalist groups showed up with very specific questions and ideas. Again, the quality of conversation was good, and it seemed like a mutually productive event for both the Commission and representatives of the various NGOs that showed up.
I liked how the emphasis was not necessarily on Lisbon, and other issues were addressed.
Lisbon questions were answered straight-up though. Was refreshing.

Seems like they have left Dublin for the time being and are down south now.
