Nissan X-Trail Trade In Value

I'm thinking of downsizing my X-trail to a Qashqai in the near future (don't need the size of the X-trail any more) and was wondering what should I expect as a reasonable trade in value for it.

    Details
07 X-Trail 4X4 Diesel 95K km in excellent condition all round

    Any ideas ?

The old shape X Trail, is a nasty, nasty car. The only thing you've got going for you is the fact that its diesel. However, that in itself offers another problem - the 2.2DCi engine is known for having a leaking intercooler - which if upwards of 800 squids to put right. Along with some turbo issues, this may cause a problem to the salesman who knows his stuff.

Along with the introduction of the new model, and the big reduction in price, I'd say you'd be very lucky to get 9k for it. If that. The mileage would put a lot of retail punters off, especially on a two year old car.

Am i being too harsh on it? I've got a hape of X Trail commercials on the way back, and I sold one recently for 5.5k, with similar mileage to the trade. I presume the passenger version would be worth around 3k more.

I would echo what the others have said.

A few things that will put a dealer off your car:
    • The old X-Trails are hard to shift even in the good times. In the current climate they are almost unsellable.
    • 2.2 litre and pre 2008 means motor tax of over €800 a year.
    • Price reductions by Nissan on the new model has devalued the old model even further.
    • 95k km is above average mileage for the year and approaching the magic 100k km mark which will have your average Irish Joe running for the hills.
    • The Qashqai is still a big seller even in a depressed market, a dealer can afford to be fussy on what they want to take as part exchange against one.
My advice is if the X-Trail is giving you no trouble then hold onto it and get value from it.

I don't think it will be quite that bad.

We recently (July) sold a 2.2Dci Elegance with 77,000km on for €10,500 to trade. Depends on the spec of the OP's X-Trail (Elegance has full Leather and all the toys), but a year newer with a bit higher mileage it should make roughly the same.

As pointed out by bazz26 though, if it's running fine you might as well keep it.
