I recently got a new laptop but am having a problem connecting to the internet with the wireless network. The laptop is picking up the signal from the router but won't connect to the internet. Anybody have this problem before or know how I could solve it?

This message comes up: "Network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response."

DO you have access list or mac filtering on. I set this up on my router then a few months later forget i set it up and got a new pc. Couldnt connect to net. After an hour :) i realised i had not added the mac address

I don't have an eircom router so would it still work? I tried the address but that didn't work.

EDIT: nevermind, forgot to connect with ethernet cable.

EDIT: still won't work. Internet too.

No, I don't have any of those (to the best of my knowledge anyway). How would I check if I do?

Has it got Norton or McAfee installed?

Neither program (much as I loathe mcafee) should have any impact on this issue.

+1 to mp22s post. You would want to reset the router entirely and then follow those steps. to do this there is a reset button on the back of the router - press it down with a pen/pencil for 10 seconds, then follow the thread instructions.
