    Hi Folks,

I have been looking for a way to burn video files (avi, mpg4 etc) to DVD but it seems that this can only be done via third party on a Mac. There is the excellent OSS DVDFlick but can't find any way of getting it to run on a mac. Has anyone here bought third party software for this purpose and if so how did you find it and was it worth the price?

I've been searching for a good review of video files to DVD software but I can't seem to find any and google seems to be flooded with adds for hundreds of em so hoping someone here has found themselves in a smilar position. As usual all feedback welcome.

    Regards,

    Dave

Why not iDVD? I've done a few DVD disks using AVI's or mpg4's as a source. (avi's downloaded or from cameras)

@Simon21 - I thought the all singing all dancing Apple would do it too but I cant seem to import the videos. I go to file -> import -> video select the video and nothing happens (and I mean nothing, no swirling busy icon or error message NOTHING). If I drag and drop the videos on to the drop zones from finder they will add alright but the files won't appear under videos and if I go to burn the disc it gives me an error about unused drop zones. Yet another huge disappointment from Apple, the more I use them the more I get to hate them for leaving out the little things.

I don't know if its because Im not using iDVD right but from reading the tutorials I found it seems I am. The only thing I can think of is that if the media/files isn't in the places where Apple thinks it should be (movies DIR or iTunes etc) then it refuses to play nice. I cant find any way of creating a directory per project etc either.

I think you need to set them to the correct format to "share" them with iDVD.

Drag your video files into imovie then export them using QT conversion to whatever format you want. Save the new file to your desktop or somewhere then you can import it (or share as Apple put it) with idvd.

i've used ffmpg and it's very good, though might come across as a little complicated in the settings... tutes are out there if you get stuck.

the one i use most is Visual Hub, which is no longer released / supported by the one fella who had designed it, but i'm sure it's out there still to own load. Very straight forward, very good - at also converts out to psp, ipod, swf and a few others... love it.

    good luck!

also, to clarify, these wont give you menu's and scenes either, just the avi/mpg converted to a VIDEO_TS file to burn to a dvd...

Whats the easiest way to burn a video_ts file so that it will play in a dvd player? Using burn folders?

burn folder would work fine. all the dvd player needs is a VIDEO_TS on it (all capitals) to play... however you get it there.

If you can find Visual Hub, it will convert and burn to disk in the one operation...

thats why i like it! :D

    lemme know how you go...
