Water pump

When I bought my high milage '97 Polo, I had the timing belt done and expected the water pump to be changed at the same time. However the mechanic reckoned the pump was ok and left it. I was happy to save a few bucks, but now 2050 miles later coolant is peeing out and they say it's the water pump. I'm hoping for a deal on the labour cost which is probably 2 hours, but I'm not too hopeful and am waiting for the bloke to come back to me. Any thoughts? They are not a main dealer and are always pleasant to deal with.

Very bad decision by him to be honest, still you can't really expect him to give a significant discount.

Very bad advice from your mechanic on not changing the water pump.

Don't quite understand your question though, you asking if you're likely to get a discount or whether 2 hours is reasonable? If the latter, then yes that sounds about right to me.

Asking both really, and wondering how to approach it. I'm just thinking out loud, and having a bit of a grumble. Thanks for the replies. Exits muttering to self....
