Connacht Rugby are playing Rotheram Titans in their last pre-season game before the season begins on Friday 28th at 6:30pm at the Sportsground on College Road and its free admission for anyone who turns up in a Connacht jersey and all chilren(under-18).
Supporters are also asked to bring flags, bodhrans, drums or anything that will create a good atmosphere.

Meanwhile, the Connacht Rugby Open Day in aid of Special Olympics Ireland, which had to be postponed at the weekend because of the appalling weather, has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 19, at the Sportsground. Events will get under way at 12pm and continue until 3pm that afternoon. Similar to the initial event planned for last Sunday, admission to the Sportsground for the Open Day will be free of charge, with events planned for all members of the family. Free car parking will also be available at the Sportsground and throughout the afternoon there will be bouncing castles, obstacle courses, kicking and try-scoring competitions, while the Connacht players will do a demonstration of skills.
The Connacht squad will be in attendance throughout the afternoon, with a series of events planned for all members of the family.

Just thought people would like to know, seeing as attendances last season where appalling and its a great Friday evening out.

    Def worth supporting,

You said elsewhere that you hate soccer because of all of the money the players earn...

Anyway, well done Connacht Rugby for such a good idea.

    I got a stalker...woo hoo

Only messing, I only got into rugby 2 years ago, still learning as I go along.
My main reason for supporting Connaught(Not Connacht) Rugby is the difference in attitude with the crowds and event staff.

I was at one match in Terryland and hated the place, the fans and stewards were knob jockeys.

I go to the sportsground and am allowed pitch access to take photo's during the game, there is also great banter with the fans and a far better atmosphere.

As regards the Southern Hemisphere boys in galway, Isn't it great that a higher calibre of sportsman will come to a place like galway. Do you think Ronaldo or even some 30 something ex international would play for galway united?

It is a great day out but putting up the prices of season and single tickets with always kill off attendances.
    Especially in a recession.

Its already gone up,used to be 15 for an adult.
Season ticket now is more expensive than a Munster season ticket.Given the form of the last few seasons its a bit of a joke

Seeing as Munster get double the money from the IRFU that Connacht do, and many times as much in sponsorship and merchandising, they have to get the money from somewhere. The Munster season ticket doesn't include European matches AFAIK, just Magners League, and season ticket holders get priority to purchase tickets for European games. Connacht season ticket is for all matches.

I thought there is no increase in the season ticket/gate prices this year. It's the lack of a decrease or some other incentive that has me in two minds to renew my season ticket.

Well there is 4 less friendlies this season than last as well and with Friday being free if you have a jersey hanging around is there any real incentive to buy a season ticket.I'm in two minds also.I might head up late in the week to purchase one but still undecided. It did increase big time last year to fund the wages of the likes of Cronin,Keatley,Carr,Murphy,Ta'auso and as a levy for the shiny new gym as well but st numbers decreased from over 800 the year before to not much over 400 it'll be a fair deal less again this season I'd say.

Um, the Munster season ticket covers the same "crap clubs at terrible level of rugby" i.e. Magners League. They still have to pay extra for HEC games. And if you consider the likes of Munster, Leinster, Ospreys, Cardiff etc. "crap clubs" then you know sweet FA about rugby. And as Robbo said, there is no increase this year, it went up last year.

I won't be buying a season ticket this year as I'm guaranteed to be away for a few games so won't get the value from it, but will be going to as many games as I can and paying at the gate, or buying single tickets in advance for big games. Best entertainment available in Galway, and a great way to kick off a good Friday night.

bigeasyeah - Muster tickets cost €215 for 6 out of 9 magners league matches and no Heineken Cup matches. Connacht rugby season tickets cost €240 (for new memebers) for all 9 magners league matches, 3 european challenge cup matches and any friendlies that take place. (i know there is another one or two friendlies to be announced during the autum internationals) so that's 14 matches for €240 versus €215 for 6 matches in munster. come on man, do a bit of reserch before you starting spouting what you heard down the pub.

Do you have any idea of potential opponents for these friendlies? It might help move a few season tickets if they made supporters aware that they were working on getting a few friendlies lined up.

Connaught was the English's way of spelling it, Connacht is the original way and how i've always read it. I really dont know where that 'ugh' comes from besides the paper?

Speaking as someone who has spent €225 (renewal price) for this years Connacht season ticket I can't really agree. I eventually relented and bought it as a show of support from the province (not the branch!) but that's the ONLY reason why. I always end up missing one or more competitive games due to getting caught up with work and probably won't have the time to give my ticket to someone else. That hardly represents good value.

I really can't see why someone would pay the €240 as a first time season ticket buyer. I don't think that I would and I certainly wouldn't advise anyone else to. Based on the current fixture list someone is basically paying the gate price for each game and moving the requirement to ensure that every match is attended from the branch to the supporter. Sure the branch might add a couple of poor quality, under-attended friendlies to the ticket later in the season but they really don't add much to entice a supporter towards a season ticket.
