i actually am looking forward to this, i think that Jay Z has released some weakish records in the past but i think that this one has potential to be a great album.
delighted to see No I.D. all over this too, he is a fantastic producer and everyone should own a copy of his album with Dug Infinite called Accept Your Own and Be Yourself.

I also think that Jay has a new swagger in his delivery and has freshened up a bit for this album. And adding Kanye, Neptunes, Alicia Keys, the mighty Timbaland into the mix certainly wont be a negative thing. My only worry is the Swiss Beats song, havent been a fan of his in a long time now.

I cant wait for it, only heard D.O.A so far and love it. I thought Jockin Jay Z would be on this album. I think Dre just isn't good enough anymore to produce for Jigga.

Dre's production on Relapse didnt do it for me, but he can still produce a banger so i'm not happy or sad that he hasnt featured on this.

Can't wait for this either. Surprised myself "Jockin Jay-Z" or "Brooklyn We Go Hard" isn't on it but still should be a good album none the less.

he handles a good chunk of the production, i think he is also credited as exec producer

seems like he should have his name on the cover in the same font as JayZs name lol he did that to that other tool from Birmingham

listening to it now,im actually kinda liking it! the beat off ''already home'' is quality!
the guest have been sh!t so far, especially the ones who do the hooks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,460 ✭✭✭Orizio

One listen suggests it isn't as bad as expected.

Is it just me or shoud Chris Brown have finished what he started :p She ruins that song on the album anyway.

Wasn't expecting much and to be honest thats what you get. Fave tracks DOA (by a mile), Already Home and Hate, like the beat on that one, bit different. Track with Alicia Keys alright too. The opening track - What we talking about and closing track Young Forever i thought were atrocious. Last one sounds very familiar to a TI track i dislike! All the other bits in between a bit meh.

This can go alongside Kingdom Come now, hope Only Built 2 is a hell of a lot better than this which i'm pretty sure it will be

good lord, is Jay for real, is this really something that he is proud to release??

This is the Boom Bap breakdown of the album:
What We Talkin About - there are some nice reflections on Jaz and things that have happened on his way to where he is now. Dire hook. 80's synth, sounds like the soundtrack to Commando....which i kinda like

Thank You - straight away, the same synth from track 1 is used in this...but i like the lyrics and the way he flows over this. Possibly the best song on the album, although the hook is dodge.

D.O.A. - Really like this but it doesnt sound like the rest of the album, it's out of place.

Run This Town - i actually like this and Rhianna doesnt bother me

Empire State of Mind - I think Alicia Keys is great, Jay doesnt do much on this song though, he's actually kind of boring on it.

Real As It Gets - RUBBISH full stop

On To The Next One - This sounds really like another song, just can pin down what the song is, some Busta Rhymes song maybe...he uses autotune for a moment or 2 ion this song, just to make fun of it.

    Off That - not bad

A Star is Born - this features J.Cole, not to be confused with Chelsea's Joe Cole. Not a memorable song by any means

Venus Vs. Mars - Interesting beat, starts off nice until the foxy brown style chorus kicks in and puts me off the song. The beat dropping

    Already Home - it's OK i guess

Hate - why do kan ye and jay rap so slow on this song?
But then Kanye turns it around with his ping ping ping line.

Reminder - the most annoying song i've heard in a while

So Ambitious - this is a damn good song, the Pharrel and Jay-Z formula works again

Forever Young??????what is this sh*te, the worst hook ever. Not a momentous end to a record. How do i burn an MP3, as in light on fire? It's an insult to my recycle bin to send this to it.

This album is something i would not be recommending to anyone and i had such high hopes for this.

Honestly I don't think it's half as bad as people* have been making it out to be. Granted it's not his best album but it's still better than Kingdom Come. I'll give it another few listens before I make a final decision but it's alright. Starts stronger than it ends and I'm not a fan of having a guest appearance on almost every track but I think Alicia Keys is great on it.

*As in people in general not specifically posters here.

i've listened to it again, after the first 5 songs it goes downhill.....seriously downhill. But the first 5 are enjoyable.

I think this new album is so dope. So glad they had to release it early! I tried to get tickets for Jay-Z's 9/11 benefit concert at Madison Square Garden but it literally sold out in minutes. Gonna watch it on TV though. Fuse is doing a live broadcast of the concert. Starts at 9PM... Here's the info if anyone is interested: http://www.fuse.tv/ontv/shows/jay-z/index.html

The Blueprint 3 is solid enough. Not Jay-z' best nor a classic at that. Saying that it has some catchy songs with some very catchy hooks. Production from the likes of Timbaland and Swizz beats have definitley done this album no harm. Should go down well with the majority of hip-hop lovers. 3.5/5 imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 216 ✭✭Diego Smartly

Yeah i think the first 4 or 5 songs until "Empire State of Mind" anyway are brilliant, the beats especially. After that the rest are still good but probably not as good. Its definatly a really good album, better than some of his other stuff...

I like "Forever Young" too, theres something about it :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

I think it's solid as far as the Drake song and then slumps a bit but overall it's a good album.

Really enjoying this album so far. Empire State of Mind is probably my favourite song on the album. Not fond of that D.O.A tune though. Young Forever, while not the best song in the world, there is something about it that keeps me going back to it :D (Maybe it is the cheeseness of it & Napoleon Dynamite :P )
The album itself wouldnt be one of Jay's classics, i think Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint 1 & The Black album would be his best ones. This isnt far behind though. I'd give those albums 5/5, this is a fairly solid 4/5 for me.
