Payout query

Today, I placed a bet on a horse called Windex @ 4/1 where I clearly saw a Rule 4 Applied(won @ 3/1 SP). This bet was placed in a large multinational,Woodquay,Galway,Ireland 35 mins before the off,. Duly the horse obliged by winning. I proceed to collect & was handed 34 euro(10 euro win bet). There is a sign as there is in all betting shops in Galway, that says " Guaranteed Odds, If you take a price and your selection's SP is greater than the earlier price we we will pay the greater"(or words to that effect).

I queried this and the staff were adamant I was not entitled to the 3/1 @ SP,

    I am certain I was,

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Furthermore, I found the staff very rude.

I fully plan to, the above is just a section of my draft mail, I have spoken to numerous fellow punters who agree with me, I just thought I'd throw it out to the forum for alternative views.

what was the rule 4 deduction?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 110 ✭✭Alyosha

You took a price and got hit with a 20c Rule 4. Price may be guaranteed but Rule 4 still applies.

Aye should be best odds guaranteed as per all of Laddys shops, know the shop that you mean aint the best, have always punted in Mulhollands when around that part of Galway...

Go into one of their other shops and ask for their Customer Care number, they should be able to help you out.

Looks to me like you got done over alright.

    At 3/1, it would be €30 less 20% which is €24 plus your €10 stake = €34.

If you had gotten the 4/1, then you should have gotten back €42.

One thing is did you write the 4/1 on the slip?

Yep, wrote 4/1 on the slip, that's where the Rule 4 kicked in but as the SP was 3/1, I should have got 40 ie tenner @ 3/1 SP).

They paid you out at 4/1. You want to be paid out at 3/1 then you would get even less money.

So I was paid out @ 4/1 with the Rule deductions ended it up about 9/4.

So they pay out at 9/4 rather than 3/1 cos 4/1 is the better price before deductions?

    Sneaky if true.

Its is in the small print in most if not all bookies - Best price guaranteed
    (if no rule 4) :)

    standard stuff

yea, all they are doing is guranteeing best price which they clearly have abided to.

When the bookies sniff any discontent in your voice when collecting, suggesting your not happy, they do get seriously defensive. I had two gang up on me once just for mentioning - not complaining- that I intended my e10 e/w to go 10 win, 10 place rather than the actual 5 e/w they gave me. They're trained to be c*nts.

    edit

to clarify, I had a few bets that day and left with about five or six tickets and realise I made the mistake of not checking the dumb b*stards got it right

    Thanks for all the help.

I couldn't give a monkeys about the 6e difference, was pissed off with the rudeness of staff as they were adamant I was wrong, openly sneering at me.

I was going to complain to HO but think now that I'll probably get a similar reaction so won't bother.

    Cheers

It would be open to fraud i.e. a trainer pulls the favourite at the last minute, markets are redone a rule 4 is declared but you have a gaurenteed price on your selection.

The Deduction should be taken at 4/1(i persume by the way your talkin, u took this price)....

    €10 @ 4/1 with a .20c R4 should have a return of €42

This is what you should of got, no more, no less.....!!!!

No bookies offers guaranteed prices where there is a rule 4, none that I know of anyway and Id be very suprised if there are any at all, they would be very foolish to.

OP the payout was IMO correct, the staff's attitude and customer service however is another matter and this may be worth following up on

Of course the price is still guaranteed, The Rule 4 is deducted from whatever price you take at the time...

    Example:

I back a horse at 8/1 and the fav is withdrawn at 2pm, i will have a R4 deduction of .30c on my bet...
In some cases there is now a new market formed. My horse is now priced at 5/1....
Another short priced horse is withdrawn at 4pm.... there is now an additional R4 of say .20c

    if i backed the horse before 2pm i now have a R4 of .50c @ 8/1 on my bet

    if i backed the horse at 3pm i now have a R4 of .20c @ 5/1 on my bet

Just as a matter of interest were you on time for the 4/1?

Sometimes if people are backing a few horses by the time they get prices from the CIT (customer info terminal) the price of one of the horses might have changed. Rocket Ronnie sums up what I was going to say tbh

Friend did a bet last Thurs.12th April. He had three horses up in a lucky15 which included Apache Drums in the 6.40 Gowran,won@9/2s.p.However he had taken Fran Berry's mount @6/1 morning price. On Fri. 13th he collected his winnings but reckoned it was short.A shrewd, longtime and minimum bet punter. The system had deducted approx.8 euros because of a non runner rule4, in the Gowran race.He checked race details:all horses ran except the three reserves. In effect there should have been no rule4.Head office of PP admitted there was a system error or glitch and friend got the correct total, about 200euros,a big win for him.Question remains though:how many punters might not have queried a rule4 on a very busy period?;)
