Yep, there's a lot of different ways to do it, s-video, vga and more.

Here's a good cheap way, and works on older televisions too..

VGA to TV Converter S-Video RCA Cable Adapter.

You can get them on Ebay for less then €2.00 and free postage.

And you can Get an RCA to RCA cable pretty much anwhere that sells electrical goods these days for less the a fiver. (Usually about €2)

Does one not need anymore than this to do that?

What model is your laptop (does it have any hdmi ports)
What type of tv do you have, does it have hdmi/vga in etc. etc.

don't forget that you'll also need a cable for the sound...
unless you have a newish laptop with an ati gpu and hdmi out....

I don't have HDMI on my TV but have HDMI on the my DVD Recorder, can you connect with HDMI through the DVD and watch items on tv through your laptop?

In Vista, go to the Sound Device's properties and go to the advanced tab. Run some tests on the format being sent to the TV. By Default it assumes DTS and Dolby Surround Sound; and 48khz.

Set resolution to 720x576 dvd movie res,or 1024x768 ,set pc refresh rate graphics card, to 60mhz.ITS better to use vga in,if the tv has vga.
or try 720x480 resolution. Is your tv a hdtv, does it have vga or hdmi.

Bull****. VGA only does picture, no sound. Whatever this is, it's a rip off. Do not buy this and if someone tells you it works, they're lying.

If the TV is a flatscreen, you should be able to go VGA to VGA or DVI-I to VGA/HDMI but that will only transfer picture. You'll need a seperate cable for sound. Usually a 3.5mm mini-jack cable to 3.5mm mini jack cable/twin phono.

Even if you're using HDMI to HDMI, you're stuck using that for sound with trying to root sound to the TV unless you put the sound out to a different audio system from the headphone jack.

If you look at the side of the your laptop and see an S-Video connection, count the pins, you should find seven. It'll usually be yellow too. The TV equivalent will have four pins. You can get about a ten percent chance of it working.

If you're trying to connect your laptop to your TV and it's an old tube television, expect to see a drop in image quality because laptops and PCs use progressively scanned video while old style TVs use interlaced video. Same reason why playing HD games have blurry text on SD TVs.

You,ll get dvd type quality on the tv ,720x576 if you are using an old tv.
its pretty close to plugging in a dvd player, regarding picture quality if you have it set up ,right.
