Anyone know if there is a deal for 20Mb broadband and basic tv service with UPC?

even a higher TV service but no phone.

Everything on the site tries to give me a phone if I want broadband and TV. I'd settle for the 10Mb with no cap broadband but can't see anything like that on the website.

of course, UPC are using the word "deal" in the loosest possible way...

    deal:
    • a particular instance of buying or selling; "it was a package deal"; "I had no further trade with him"; "he's a master of the business deal"
    • bargain: an agreement between parties (usually arrived at after discussion) fixing obligations of each; "he made a bargain with the devil"; "he rose to prominence through a series of shady deals"

They keep making out that you get a "good" deal by subscribing to multiple products but they don't offer any level of discount even if you max out all the options... :/

My only real problem with it is who could justify paying 30 euro a month for sports or movies :-/

Movies get replayed ad naseum on these services and other than hardcore soccer fans, who is going to be 30 euro for sports?

Are sky ripping them off and they have to pass it on or something? Kind of a ridiculous amount of money to ask per month for a few extra channels.

Not the biggest soccer fan but do enjoy watching matches when they are on :-0 Can't justify paying that.

I presume red button type services such as BBC's don't work on UPC? I'd like to be able to get the red button features for the F1, not really a necessity though.

Oh and Digital+ HD option means what exactly? Do I need to get this to get BBC HD only if getting basic tv package?

Sky probably charge just enough to avoid having UPC massively undercut them.

    Sky's charges are similar;
All of the sky Sports channels together will cost you €31.50
All of the movie channels together (without the sports channels) will cost you €27.50

All movie and sports channels together will cost €40.50

So UPC are cheaper in some regards and more expensive in others - it looks like UPC have just made their pricing structure simpler, so it's €30 for either or €40 for both.

You're right, I don't know how anyone can justify €30/month for sport or movies, but that's clearly what Sky are getting away with charging.

I wanted to upgrade to HD, so have so far requested 3 callbacks from UPC, and also rang twice and was on hold for 10 minutes before hanging up.

They're really not good at the selling bit.

    lol, maybe overworked :D

I think the HD thing might be worth it with them for 7.50 a month even if it is just for BBC HD as I won't be able to get it FTA as I don't want to ask the landlord for permission to attach something else to his roof and it would be nice to have everything on one system.

Does the HD box use HDMI?

I just got off the phone with them after being on hold for 5+ mins. Received a flyer advertising that they answer calls on average within 60 seconds. (possible misprint? should be 600?)

I wanted to get the 10Mb/HDchannels/phone package.
However, they only offer the 10Mb service, HD not available in my area, and phone is not available in my area. :(
Anyone have the 10Mb? Is it anywhere close to 10Mb, and is it stable?
I suspect they could save a lot of money and stop sending flyers to areas advertising services they can't provide.

I've just been signing up to Sky today and they are just as bad if not worse.

Been calling them over the last three days, phone engaged each time, left name and number but got no call back. Finally get through today, sales person hadn't a clue, very, very basic questions, she needed to go ask supervisor three times!!!

Also couldn't up sell me on movies even though I was interested.

I think the problem is they spend half their time calling people who have canceled to try to get them back :-/

Know my parents canceled sky not too long ago and were hassled for months afterwards. They only watch FTA channels so they just got a FTA box.

Do they people working there get commission for signing back up people who had canceled the service or something.

If it is bothering your parents, tell them to tell Sky the next time they call, that they want their contact details removed from Sky's Database per the Data Protection Act.
