Additional Capacity on Drogheda, Dundalk and Belfast Bus Eireann Services

Additional Bus Eireann Capacity on Drogheda, Dundalk and Belfast services

Due to disruption on Northern Commuter rail services, Bus Eireann is making every effort to provide additional capacity on its routes serving Drogheda, Dundalk and Belfast in order to try and meet customer demand.

Additional buses will operate on the 100X Dundalk-Drogheda-Airport-Dublin service, which operates every hour to Wilton Terrace via the Port Tunnel.

Additonal buses will operate on the 101 Drogheda-Dublin (Busaras) service via Balbriggan, Swords and Dublin Airport, which operates every 20 mins.

For the duration of the disruption, Belfast Enterprise services will operate with train services between Belfast and Drogheda and with bus transfers between Drogheda and Connolly.

Additional buses will operate on the Bus Eireann Dublin-Belfast Number 1 route, which operates every hour on the hour 24 hours a day.

Timetable information can for these routes can be found at http://194.106.151.94/jplan/bin

As an alternative bus service www.matthewscoach.com who use the Port Tunnel and M1.

They pick up at City North Hotel so that may suit some people as a P&R.

did anyone come in from Balbriggan this morning?? how did that work out? was it a train to Skerries and bus on or did you manage to get a 33 from the town?

I drove from Balbriggan (left at 7:10, twenty minutes earlier than usual summer commute). Traffic was heavier but not impossible. A 33X actually passed us on the M1 Southbound at Lissenhall, so might give that a try once they put some train times up from Balbriggan-Skerries. It didn't look packed either.

Have also signed up to a car pooling website, both as passenger and driver but no replies yet. http://www.tripmi.ie Has anyone had any joy with it?

Does anyone know of private coach services from Skerries to City centre or UCD which avoid Rush altogether?

    There are none operating.

Your options are 33/33X bus via Rush, or go to Balbriggan and get either the rail replacement bus from there or the Bus Eireann 101 service.

The low bridge outside Skerries Station forces Dublin Bus to operate via Rush unfortunately.

Is it possible to catch a train from Balbriggan to Drogheda and then catch the shuttle bus using a Balbiggan-Dublin ticket?

I'm just wondering before I go back to college, some mornings I don't start till midday and thus leaving Balbriggan before 9am is hardly ideal.

Where does the matthews bus pickup in dublin?? Along Parnwll St somehwere is it?

I'm not sure about the Parnell Street route but it picks up around the IFSC once a day. The bus departs the O2 at 17.00. It goes from there stopping at the bus shelter at the Spencer Dock Train Station, Amiens Street, the IFSC, Jury's Inn and AIG Centre (keep an eye out for the Bus Eireann stops because that's where Matthews stop). Then through the Port Tunnel. The bus has been held up quite a bit at the junction of Seville Place turning left onto Amien's Street the last few evenings. It hasn't been getting around to Jury's until 17.15.

The Matthew's Parnell St. stop is located just down from the Dublin Bus 40/A/D stop, almost opposite the junction with Marlborough St.

Just a quick heads up, seeing as my message to this effect was removed from railusers.ie's forum for some reason.

The times on the Dundalk-Donabate emergency timetable aren't the usual IE padded nonsense but actually reflect realistic journey times on the ground.

Also, anyone catching the service should expect additional delays between Skerries and Rush and Lusk because they have disabled the signalling system south of Skerries and are using a pilotman* instead.

Skerries to Donabate is currently being operated as a single-track section with only the northbound platforms in use at Rush and Lusk and Donabate.

    * pilotman = a very basic signalling system where an IE employee effectively acts as a human access token to ensure that only one train is in particular section.

I believe there is a midday dart to Malahide, but are teh shuttle buses running all day or only at peak times? If they are running all day are the leaving once an hour at a certain time or is it just a matter of luck?
    Thanks in advance,

I used to go Gormanston- Tara St. on the train, but now drive to Gorm, get train to Balbriggan, get bus to Connolly and walk the rest.
I work on Saturdays an apprently the replacement buses aren't run then. I have asked a few Irish Rail guys what I should do on Saturdays but they dont really know. ("Check the website" "Eh..." "Check with Bus Eireann")

Any thoughts? Can I get a train Gorm- Drog & then get the Enterprise connection bus into Connolly? Do I need an Enterprise ticket in that case? I've got annual Gorm - Pearse ticket.

    Thank you!

You have a few options, you can catch the 101 Bus Eireann, it seems they are now accepting annual rail tickets. Another option is to get the rain as far as Skerries, then catch the 33x, I think you can get the Enterprise bus on a Gormo ticket if you want to head up to Drog.

In the evening where are the stops on Baggot Street, Leeson Street and Stephens Green?

I've contacted bus eireann but they haven't responded yet. With so few buses it would be awful to be waiting at the wrong stop.

All 101s go through Balbriggan, two stops in Drogheda St (Bath Road and Spicers), one stop at the old Cinema and one stop at the Church. The above are not new services, they have just some amendments to them which are clearer described.

    I imagine:

Baggot Street - at shops opposite Bank of Ireland
Leeson Street - St. Stephens Green end
St. Stephens Green - north side

An alternative is a route 102 bus to Swords and a 33b to Donabate. Dublin Bus fares would apply.
