Just after sitting down to play some BAttlefield 1943 and much to my horror when I tried to turn on my PS3all I get is a black screen. II've tried holding down the power button in a bid to reset the video setting in case it was that but nothing is happening.. When I put ina game A small circular symbol appears in the top right hand of the screen for a few seconds before returning to the black screen. Anyone experience this and if so got any solutions to fix it.

Tried everything. It was working fine last night and when I turned it on earlier it would only go as far as the wavey lione screen so I turned it off for awhile and when I came back I just get the black screen.

Have you tried to remove the hard drive too?

PS: If you tried everything and it's still down ring Sony...

That sounds to me like the video modes when you go from HDMI to output cables. Holding down the reset button till it beeps is the solution.

Yeah, tried 3 different cables. As I said when I put in a disc I get a little circular symbol in the top right hand of the screen followed again by a black screen.

That little circle symbol is showing you that the disc is trying to load and the blank screen after is real bad news as it sounds to me like your laser is fooked....

    Unlucky

I was thinking laser myself though the machine should still turn on and let me access the other files on it I would have thought.

Did they take it away and fix it and if so what was the problem with it?

Reading online it would in fact seem to be a laser issue with thousands of machines suffering from it.

Ah right, I thought from your post that they had no idea what was wrong with yours and it was still broke. Plan on ringing them later.

Maybe firmware corruption? Like what Sirsok seems to have had.

Rang Sony help and the guy was far from helpful, he said that they would not fix my machine and would only offer me a replacement for 160 euro. I asked him why some people were having it fixed for free and he said that was not the case. I also asked him if he could try and talk me through a repair over the phone and he refused to do so.

I think you should add that to the technical sticking at the top.

    Good work!
