VW Gearbox/Clutch trouble

    hey guys just loooking for a bit of advice.I recently replaced the Gearbox and clutch on a '99 VW Golf 1.9 SDi.It was a brand new clutch and a 2nd hand gearbox.now not 500 miles later,its getting hard going into 1st gear.When the car is switched off the gears are engaging no problem.That makes me think that the problem is with the clutch.The gearbox came out of a 02 VW Golf.any suggestions on what to do next?

    Get another car. Seriously. This thing is going to cost you far more than you bought it for, in fact it probably already has, considering it's an SDI. The Mk4s have gearbox issues as they get older, and I'd be thinking the s/h gearbox is failing. Was it reconditioned or just taken straight out of a scrapped donor car?

    Other than that, is it hard to get into 1st gear every time or is it just when it's cold? Any other shifting issues?

    its hard to go into gear form cold,all the other gears are grand.it was taken straight out of a scrapped car..
