Digital TV Newbie

I hope I am in the correct forum for this - apologies if I am not!

I am considering getting digital TV in. I will get NTL or Sky plus the relevant sports packages so that I can watch the rugby, soccer, etc. I'm not really interested in any other channels/packages.

We have two TVs so we need two boxes. Can I buy these for a once-off fee instead of paying monthly?

Has anyone got any information/details on who would offer me the best deal? Also, is it true that Sky is far superior in quality to NTL? Are NTL still impossible to contact when something goes wrong??

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

have been examining their deals thoroughly all week. ur gonna have to do the same :P

of course Sky's superior - but the issue of having to have a box in every room to view anything at all? then they want you to hook em all up to the phone line down in the hall, as if a Sky dish outside the house wasn't embarrassing enough..

UPC, you'd still get their analog signal too. however Setanta Ireland's 3pm has been deferred to Setanta 1 today. Setanta is only available on UPC not Sky, while Set Ire is part of their analog service you will not be wanting to cough up 15 to add Setanta 1.

im in the same boat.theres meant to be some issue with channel 4 on the sky box - some of the programmes dont get shown.Does anyone know what the story is with ESPN do they show premiership matches as well?I may end up going for since ntl are so impossible to get through to:rolleyes:

Wrong. Setanta Ireland and Setanta Sports 1 are not only available on UPC. They can also be subscribed to on satellite.

apologies for the mis-info. seems with Sky its the Sky+ and HD boxes that send the price high. there's no real need for Sky+ imo.. in my projected setup the initial HD box would be the big money sapper but one or two multiroom standard box contributors makes it value for all that content/interactive service.. i am over the notion of invasive wiring. i see the more technical of us are using Dreambox

    - well i am gonna proceed with the Sky subscription. gie it a shot anyhow - goodbye ITV.. *sob*

ITV amongst others can be tuned in on a Sky box. TV3 show a lot of their stuff also.

in relation to NTL check out where you live if ur neighbours are having issues with the connection, where i live we have been calling ntl to fix a cable which is faulty and they are not interested in fixing it properly hence our service is shocking when the weather is bad.
