Can I claim Supplementary Welfare Allowance whilst waiting for FIS?

    Hi all.

My Wife has manged to get a part time job and starts next week.

We just found out the good news this morning.

At the moment like most people we are on the dole, so its great to have at least 1 of us working again.

What I'm not sure about is how FIS and Supplementary Welfare works.

Reading on forums and speaking to people it appears that there is a delay of around 12 weeks for people waiting for FIS, as my wife will only be working 20 hours per week, the income will only be around €170 per week.

Are we entitled to have a top up from Supplementary Welfare whilst we are waiting for FIS?

At the moment we receive around €440 from the dole, clearly we cant survive as a family if our income drops from €440 per week to just €177 whilst we sit and wait for FIS to pay out.

Will Supplementary Welfare top up our income to €440 and deduct what they paid from FIS when its paid?

If not how does our government expect people to survive if they have to sit around and wait for 12 weeks for FIS to get there act together?

We are still waiting for our Back to school allowance payments and yet our kids go back next week! Doesn't give you much hope FIS will be any quicker!

    Thanks for any advice.

Your FIS will take about 10weeks to process from the date you recive your acknowledgement letter.
Your income wont drop from €440 to €177.you can still recieve your dole and
if your wife is an adult dependant on your dole claim you will continue to recieve this until FIS claim is processed. What type of dole claim do ye have 2 separate ones or one person claiming for the family?
depending on your circumstances(if she is on your claim or not) your wife can claim Supplementary Welfare
