    I was just wondering what podcasts people listen to/ would recommend?

    I currently listen to the weekly podcast from arseblog.com (nailing my colours to the mast there) and the guardians bi-weekly podcasts

    What else is out there? What am I missing?

    Was going to make this thread yesterday, search for a similar thread in here and it has a few. Check out The Game from Times or something too.

    Mods should really sticky this, as it comes up so often.

    Anyways:

    The Game - The Times (weekly)
    Football Weekly - The Guardian (twice weekly)
    Chappers Premier League Podcast (weekly)
    606 - BBC Radio 5 Live (3-4 times a week, dependent on fixtures)
    5 Live Football Daily - BBC Radio 5 Live (daily)
    Off The Ball With Johnny Giles - Newstalk (weekly)
    Call Collymore - talkSPORT (weekly)
    Sportsweek - BBC Radio 5 Live (weekly)

    Absolutely. But don't quote me on that :)

    606 is the liveline of footie - only worth listening to when Danny baker is in the chair as actual football games are not discussed.

    I've tried most of them and the Guardian's one is head and shoulders above the rest. Good allround knowledge, some witty banter and correspondents from most of the big leagues in Europe are on regularly. I particularly enjoyed hearing about some of the stuff that went on in the Dutch league last year.

    The Newstalk lads do a pretty damn good job as well, but I find it better to just listen to the show rather than a chopped down version of it later on.

    The Times one is pretty good too, I like Marcotti and he's a regular on it.

    I am not mad about Johnny Giles on Newstalk,it seems to be the same old crap all the time.

    I think people really should give the football ramble a try, great bit of banter, kinda similar to what the okey-doke podcast was like, with sections about legends of the game etc

    Its on itunes and http://www.thefootballramble.com/

    The Guardian's Football Weekly podcast is my favourite soccer podcast.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,815 ✭✭✭Charlie

    Glendenning is woeful on Weekly. When he's not there, it's neck and neck for me between that and The Game.

    People should check out Chappers.

    Saw them mentioned on 442 mag so was planning to check them out. They don't seem to have a full list of episodes and I hate itunes. Wouldn't install it on my mother's pc.

    Added to Hot Threads sticky, we rarely do individual stickies.

    You guys do know we can be asked directly rather than posting on a thread, don't you?

    Johnny Giles on Newstalk is pretty good imo.

    He is good but very repetitive. If you listen to enough of the podcast and Giles on RTE you can almost predict everything he will say.

    BBC's 5Live Daily - http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/5lfd

    Good because it's short and updated daily

    Also listen to Guardian, Sunday Supplement, 606 Phone In, Newstalks off the Ball

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 21,254 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dub13

    Do off the Ball podcast all the show or just the first 20 min like they used to to...?

    What time does Football Weekly (The Guardian) go up at..?

    Its a bit of a movebale feast but if you check after 5 pm on Monday and Thursday, it should be up.

    I hear you got another mention this week Mike on football weekly. You'll have to start charging for your comments. :pac:

    Just listening to this podcast on RTE http://www.rte.ie/podcasts/2009/pc/pod-v-220909-25m40s-sportatseventuesday.mp3 Fair play for getting Balague, but it's just terrible tbh.

    The Newstalk one is alright, but I just can't believe someone hasn't set up a soccer podcast in Ireland yet - away from the ones on RTE and Newstalk that are taken from the radio anyway.

    There's a massive market for it, think of everyone in this very forum that'd tune in for a couple of lads to tell it like it is instead of the blandness produced from that Maloney fella or whoever.

    I'm sure a number of the lads on here would go on and talk, and now and again it would probably pull some ex-footballer or something like that. I'd know a few football bloggers from UK via bpf that'd be more than up for making an appearance.

    Nah not at all, I'm sure if the first topic discussed is the pros and cons of playing Anderson Vs Lucas, then the podcast will be a runaway success from there!

    course you'd be up for it Des, media whore! ;)

    episode 1;

    Anderson -vs- Lucas

    episode 2;

    Park -vs- Benayoun

    episode 3;

    barstoolers -vs- LOI fans

    It's very hard to even organise a beers for the SF tbh, we're the biggest forum on Boards, by a long way, that doesn't have a regular well attended beers meet.

    No James Richardson and Barry Glendinning this week makes Football Weekly seem awfully weird.. :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

    I liked it once my ears adjusted to it. We had some decent Championship chat, Serie A getting trashed and other views not previously heard!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,929 ✭✭✭raven136

    The football ramble is excellent and i think espn do a football podcast too but cant judge it as i havent listened to it yet.

    Football weekly is funnier and better banter but personally it seems there is a better debate and more knowledge on the game podcast.

    Or could it be as a liverpool fan there is less rafa is the devil incarnate on the game

    i dont find them as unfair as the media in general, they at least compare his performance with other managers in similar positions rather than to some mystical manager who gets every decision spot on...
