Psychology is a joke of a subject. It's not even a science, it's an excuse for women to pry into other people's affairs and tell them what to do. Stick with Biology.

Contact the admissions office and find out about transferring from one course to the other.

It's possible but you may need to start a new course from the beginning. As in, you'd only be let in if you had enough CAO points for it.

Haha. You remember me. Aww;);) Well, Im weighing out my options. Idk the possibility of finding a job straight after a 4 yr course of Biomed. However, Psychology is something i've always been interested in, and its a pretty varied course. If i'm studying Psychology and Medicine doesnt work out for me after it, then i wouldnt mind so much because i'll still be doing what i enjoy. You know what i mean?

    Yeah, I understand that.

Try looking up the different ways to do psychology in NUIG. I think you can do it through arts or on its own.

And there is some way of internally switching from one course to another. So you could go down that route.

It is worth pointing out that taking psychology in first arts doesn't actually guarantee you a place in second year, you need to come in the top 100 or top 200 or top something in the year to be allowed to pass through (and to pass all your other subjects).

I take it that because you're thinking of getting a degree in psychology first that you intend to go for Graduate entry medicine?

BA in Psychology info here: http://www.nuigalway.ie/courses/undergraduate/courses.php?cCode=gy104&cName=Psychology

It looks like you may need to use the CAO and apply for the course in that way.

This may be because there isn't an actual link between psychology and biomed.

So your current LC points would decide if you were going to get it or not.

This website is for arts and has some info about doing psychology through arts.

I might be wrong though. The only way to be sure would be to contact the admissions office and talk to them.

And, you could always finish out the biomed and then make sure that you get med. If you're willing to leave Ireland, it becomes rather a lot easier to get a place in a medschool. Although, you'll have to make sure that the degree is recognised by the medical councils that you'd like to work under.

Hungary and Bulgaria are thrown around as possible places quite a bit.

Other places in Eastern Europe too. There are some that offer their degrees through English as well. But you may need to learn the new language for day to day living or for patients.

But with a 2:1 degree and a good GAMSAT score, you may be able to stay in Ireland or go to England.

Actually, does England use the GAMSAT? I'm not terribly familiar with their system.

But the good degree part would still hold true for them.
