Don't worry, you'll find something to fit you.

    Cross-dressing is becoming more acceptable.

I'd say it's more about the flab than the size?

    Wasn't Marylin Monroe size 16

I'd say 14 and over would be big. Even though 14 is the average in Ireland I think isn't it? I hope this doesn't start an Irish women are fat and ugly debate yet again

Agree, it's possible to be a flabby size 8 or a toned size 16 depending on height and fitness.

Her measurements made her more like a modern size 12.

Yes, but that was a 1950's size 16 not a modern size 16. Also that may have been a US size 16, which is equivalent to a UK/Irish size 18

Nothing. plenty of men like that.

someone who is 4'10'' and a size 12 is probably overweight where someone 5'10 probably isn't. There's way more to go on than just their dress size.

Didn't vote cos poll confused me!

    16/18 = big

    20+ = fat

also depends on height, cos I know a short girl who is a size 16 but looks a lot bigger

It's daft having 14 as the outer limit of size on your poll.

Impossible to go by clothes size.

Some skinny women look great; some don't. Some so-called bigger women look great; some don't.

You have to take height, proportion and build into account too

On a woman = when belly pushes out further than tits.

On a man = the same.

    I don't know what women's sizes mean.

    I'm male, I don't have to.

As long as they're not bigger than me then that's grand

I thought that the American sizes were 2 sizes below the European sizes so she would be a size 12.

Maybe it was different back then but now that's why they start at 0 and the lowest here is generally a 4.

The lowest I have seen is 6 in shops.
Anyway it is so hard to judge dress sizes to be honest.
Right now I am wearing a size 12 skirt but my tshirt is a size 8 both fit me perfectly.
It's best to go by sight and you can't say all size 14s are huge,as on different people with varying builds and heights it looks different.

    if an american 0 is a 4 then an american 12 is a 16.

That is probably because Irish women's brains stop working properly when it comes to clothes.

For example, many girls i know wear clothes that are too small for them because they want to be a certain size (i know crazy right?).

Do they not realise that wearing tight clothes makes you look BIGGER, not smaller.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,488 ✭✭✭pikachucheeks

I don't think a clothing size indicates whether someone's fat or not.

Some shops have tiny clothes. ie. their size 10 would be an average size 6/8 - in saying that, some shops are looser with their measurement.

Also, some girls need a bigger size because they have big boobs, hips or plenty of junk in the trunk ... doesn't mean they're fat.

Fat, to me, is someone with tyres. and someone who jiggles.

Also, H&M's sizes are actually one lower than they say they are, if you look at the european size.

I just wanted to say that

actually they're 2 sizes smaller than us; our size 18 is a 14 to them. hence the reason "size 0" sounds so ridiculous to us-it's a size 4 here(still sickeningly skinny, but not beyond the realm of possibility).

i reckon there's few women out there over a size 18 who are not overweight, so that's when it starts being bad. There's loads of girls who are a decent size16 but carry it well, but there's also girls who claim to be a size 12 and look far bigger.

    Yeah right!

I mean ... really jiggle though! Like, girls who jump and smack themselves in the face with their stomachs!
